This position is located within the Laundry-Textile Care Section of the Environmental Management Service Line in the Sioux Falls VA Health Care System. The primary work of the position of Laundry Worker involves receiving, sorting, loading, pressing, steaming, processing, and issuing clean laundry.
A recruitment incentive of up to 15% of annual salary has been authorized for Laundry Worker candidates. Please contact the HR Specialist at the bottom of this announcement for specific requirements.
Duties

This occupation is being considered for a Veterans Health Administration enterprise-wide Critical Skills Incentive (CSI). Candidates may be eligible for a lump sum CSI. The amount of lump sum CSI is determined based on appointment date and may be pro-rated as determined by the end date of the CSI. Eligible candidates will be required to sign a service agreement agreeing to an obligated service period and failure to complete the obligated service period may result in a debt for the unearned portion of the CSI.
Major duties include, but are not limited to:
Operate and maintain ironer/cross-folder, 50 lb. washers, 100 and 200 lb. dryers, single piece folder and steam finishing tunnel.
Sort soiled and clean textiles according to linen type use and manufacturer's care recommendations.
Fold all types of textiles.
Load/unload all types of carts.
Select and use chemicals to clean a wide variety of surfaces per industry standards and manufacturer's recommendations.
Maintain neat and clean work area.
Monitor supplies, materials, and equipment notifying Lead or Supervisor of deficiencies, irregularities, or low stock.
Assist with training of new Textile Care employees.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 6:00 am to 2:30 pm

Bargaining Unit: This is a bargaining unit position.
FLSA Status: Non-exempt
Relocation/Recruitment Incentives: A recruitment incentive is authorized to appoint highly qualified candidates in their their first appointment as a Federal employee or to a newly appointed former Federal employee with at least a 90-day break in service. A relocation incentive is authorized to appoint highly qualified current Federal employees who must change worksite and physically relocate to a different geographic area. A service agreement is required for all recruitment and relocation incentives.

EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards.
SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. To be found at least minimally qualified for the position of Laundry Worker, your application and supporting documentation must demonstrate the critical knowledge, skills, and abilities that are essential for satisfactory job performance. For this position, the ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision is prime. Examples of qualifying experience include, but is not limited to: sorting, counting, alphabetizing, following both written and oral instructions, safely operating mechanical equipment, and performing several tasks in repetitive sequence with an adequate amount of quickness in hand and arm movements to meet production standards. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: The incumbent must be able to perform moderate to heavy physical effort over an eight-hour period of time including continuous standing, bending, lifting, and climbing. Sustained physical activity involves turning, stooping, crouching, pushing, rubbing, and reaching. Objects weighing as much as fifty (50) pounds must be lifted or moved.
