This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Domestic Defense Industrial Base Facilities and the Major Range and Test Facilities Base to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: This position is with the Directorate of Public Works Environmental Management Division located at Letterkenny Army Depot, Chambersburg, PA.

Duties

Perform inspections of structural and operational sites for infestations of pests. Apply policies pertaining to the use of hazardous chemicals. Conduct proper use on variety of tools, chemicals, and equipment for upkeep maintenance. Operate motor vehicle in performance of pest control maintenance to assigned duties.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain Government operator's license.
  • Must be able to frequently lift materials weighing over 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to pass a physical examination prior to employment and annually thereafter.
  • Must be willing to complete one year trial period.
  • Must be willing to accept a term appointment scheduled to last 13 months.
  • Must be able to wear protection gear and/or clothing with other associated equipment.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain federal certification in pest control and herbicide use, methods, and techniques.

Qualifications

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): : Ability to perform common Pest Controller (Motor Vehicle Operator) tasks including maintaining operational sites manually and mechanically for signs of pest infestations; identifying types of pests such as insects, birds, and rodents; determining scope of infestations. I can identify signs of pest infestation, determine the scope of control methods and techniques; apply treatment and equipment to prevent pest infestation; operate motor vehicle in operational maintenance of assigned duties. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Physical Effort: Frequently lifts materials weighing over fifty pounds. Works in cramped and inconvenient surroundings, which results in the work being performed in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Required to bend, crawl, climb and move equipment and furniture. Working Conditions: Work is performed inside and outside in cold, drafty, hot, humid, or water covered circumstances, underneath buildings or in other lose, smelly, dirty, or dusty places. Discomfort is experienced while wearing protective clothing, respirators, goggles or face masks. Worker is often exposed to toxic vapors, liquids, and powders and to the possibility of cuts, bruises, insect bites, and stings.
