The primary purpose of this position is to provide quality appropriate specialized developmental child care and instruction for children ages six months through five years of age in the Child Development Center.
Duties
Provides care in compliance with Child Development standards as outlined In applicable regulations and NAEYC Accreditation criteria.
Plans and conducts an effective Child Development Program to meet the physical, social, emotional, and Intellectual needs or each child based upon set goals.
Observes and evaluates children's developmental level and maintains record of progress.
Creates a pleasant, Inviting atmosphere for children.

- May be required to work uncommon tour of duty to include evenings and weekends.
- This position has been identified as having "regular contact with children." IAW Public Law 101-647 Section 231, a State Criminal History Repository (SCHR) check will be completed on any person selected for this position.
- Must satisfactorily complete a physical examination and obtain or have immunizations required by the medical examiner.
- Physical to test ability to reach above head, bend or squat to floor, kneel or sit on floor, lift and carry equipment and children is required. This position requires ability to provide total care of children from six months to five years of age.
Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the general experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Clerical and Administrative Support Positions, for the GS-1702, Education and Training Technician Series.
GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of general experience. Examples of general experience includes, 1) Providing assisting with developmental care and instruction for children in the Child Development Center (CDC). 2) Performs basic oversight and supervision for a designated classroom. 3) Plans a variety of activity plans to stimulate and sustain the interest of children and to contribute to their social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development; attends to the physical needs of children such as diapering, feeding, toileting, resting, etc., helps children's to develop self help skills.

EDUCATION: Applicants must have successfully completed two (2) years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. NOTE: You MUST submit a copy of your transcripts.

COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. NOTE: You MUST submit a copy of your transcripts.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Knowledge of the principles, theories, concepts, and practices of early childhood development encompassing infants through school age children.
2. Skill in developing lesson plans that cover physical, emotional, social and cognitive skills.
3. Skill in identifying needs of children and providing appropriate referrals, activities and care.
4. Knowledge of appropriate environmental needs of an Early Childhood Education Program.
5. Knowledge of communication skills to include oral and written communication styles.
6. Skill in observing and evaluating behavior and needs of children.
7. Knowledge of Air Force Child Development regulations and policies, NAEYC standards, and DoDI 6060.2.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
