The incumbent is responsible for the operation and supervision of the MRI Section. The incumbent is responsible for the General Diagnostic Section, Ultrasound Section, CT/Specials Section and Clerical support during the absence of the Lead General Diagnostic Section/Ultrasound Sections and the Lead General Diagnostic CT/Specials Section. All Lead Technologists provide coverage in the absence of the Chief Technologist.
Duties
Will be responsible to oversee that all protocols for the screening of patients before entering Zone 4 are being followed which includes signatures of the patient as well as the signatures of the MRI Technologists and that that are retained in our computer patient record system.
Will make sure that emergency drills are performed annually which include met codes, codes blues, code white or if a patient is trapped in the magnet by a steel object. Will be responsible that panic buttons, patient hand held buttons, call systems and intercoms are tested as per protocol.
Will be responsible for an updated list of equipment, implanted devices, foreign bodies and other objects and devices are accessible and reviewed and keep a file of all correspondence with manufacturers.
Ensures that adequate quantities of MRI and other related supplies are available to meet workload demands through a systemized process of ordering, receipt and inventory control. Assures that these procedure rooms are stocked with necessary supplies at all times with special attention to emergent equipment and supplies.
Notifies supervisor of any inventory concerns that may affect performance quality and/or budget.
Develops and maintains an on-call schedule for MRI technologists. Determines staffing requirements based on past, present, and future workload patterns and develops the weekly/monthly schedules.
Organizes staff work assignments, including lunch and break rotations. Monitors and reports absences and tardiness to Chief Technologist and timekeeper
Directs the reassignment of techs if necessary because of call-ins or increased/decreased workload. Coordinates leave requests (i.e. vacation schedules) to maintain optimal staffing levels.
Ensures timely communication and submission of scheduling information to maintain payroll data accuracy as well as optimal staffing coverage.
Coordinates and/or trains new staff in MRI and other related procedures. Assists in the development of formal orientation, training, and evaluation programs.
Recommends new or modified procedures/protocols in coordination with the radiologist and management. Instructs other technologists on specialized tasks and new/modified procedures and policies. Participates in the education of Diagnostic Radiologic Technologists (DRT) as well as students, residents and other staff through departmental in-services for the purpose of enhancing the personal and professional development of others within the radiology service.
Distributes workload among MRI section and coordinates flow of work between both MRI scanners. Schedules exams in a manner so as to optimize procedural scan times while maintaining flexibility for emergency cases. This requires the aptitude to prioritize scheduled patients as well as the ability to accommodate the emergency patient who may need immediate emergency surgery, etc.
Performs and/or supervises routine housekeeping duties to assure area is clean and sanitary. Must report and implement corrective measures to address unsanitary conditions, equipment malfunctions, etc. in a timely manner
Work Schedule: 7:45AM-4:30PM with rotating on call weekends and holidays.

Qualifications
Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.
Basic Requirements:
United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
Must have completed a full-time training course of at least 24 months duration (or the equivalent) in a radiologic technology program, evidenced by a certificate or an associate's degree, accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education inRadiologic Technology (JRCERT), and certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in Radiology. Advanced certification in MR is required.
Certified in basic cardiac life support (BCLS) is required
May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria).
