About the Position: This position is located at the Maneuver Center of Excellence (MCOE), Fort Moore, Ga. The MCOE is located 100 miles south of Atlanta, Georgia, and is adjacent to Columbus, Georgia and Phenix City, Alabama. The geography and climate are ideal for year round military training. Public transportation and free parking are available.

Duties

Inspect incoming mail to ensure that correct postage is used, and that packages and letters have been prepared in proper format for mailing and transport. Calculate mailing costs of letters, packages and parcels by weighing, computation, and proper classification by their type, weight and destination. Attach correct postage, as well as proper labels if needed, to incoming mail presented by customers. Sort incoming and outgoing mail by hand or with machines and classify according to destination and type. Answer customers? questions about procedures, regulations, mailing methods and postage costs, mailing supplies and other products provided by the Official Mail and Distribution Center. Respond to customer complaints and problems by performing research as necessary, providing information and offering appropriate solutions. Transfer pieces of mail between workstations to facilitate proper processing, sorting and delivery. Verify recipient information for registered, certified or special delivery mail, and obtain signatures before dispatching.

Requirements

  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • Requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • This position requires the incumbent to obtain mail handler certification within six months of employment.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 70 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).
