JOB DESCRIPTION: Bathymetrists receive, analyze, and deconflict U.S. and foreign bathymetric data for use by the Intelligence Community (IC) and external customers. They populate and maintain data and metadata in the bathymetry database, ensuring the accuracy of metadata pertaining to collection source platforms and depth recording devices. They also provide customers with conflated and corrected mission-specific

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: This announcement is specifically for an NGA External Disability Recruitment Hiring Event through the NGA Persons with Disabilities (PWD) Hiring Program. Selected applicants will be considered for the Agency's Hiring Pool. Selected candidates must be willing to relocate in support of mission requirements.This position may be eligible for a RECRUITMENT INCENTIVE: selected candidates may be offered an incentive as part of the offer of employment. To receive the incentive, selected candidates must be eligible under 5 CFR Part 575, Subpart A, upon issuance of the Final Offer Letter. Changes in federal employment status prior to issuance of the Final Offer Letter may affect eligibility. To receive the incentive, selected candidates will be required to sign a service agreement to stay within the position at NGA for the agreed upon time. If the service agreement is terminated before its completion, the employee may be required to repay a pro rata share amount of the incentive to the government. Qualifications

MANDATORY QUALIFICATION CRITERIA: For this particular job, applicants must meet all competencies reflected under the Mandatory Qualification Criteria to include education (if required). Online resumes must demonstrate qualification by providing specific examples and associated results, in response to the announcement's mandatory criteria specified in this vacancy announcement: 1. Rudimentary experience responding to internal and external customer needs.2. Rudimentary experience with Geographic Information System (GIS).3. Demonstrated experience identifying issues with geophysical (i.e. bathymetric, seismic, etc.) data.EDUCATION REQUIREMENT: A. Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major study of at least 24 semester hours in Oceanography or a related discipline such as Biology, Chemistry, Engineering, Geography, Geology, Geophysics, Hydrography, Hydrology, Marine Sciences, Mathematics, Meteorology, Physical Science, Physics, Remote Sensing, plus 20 additional semester hours in any combination of Oceanography, Physics, Geophysics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Meteorology, Computer Science, and Engineering Sciences. Applicants who qualify on the basis of major study in Biology or Geology must have at least 6 semester hours in the major directly concerned with Marine Science or 6 semester hours in Oceanography. -OR- B. Combination of Education and Experience: A minimum of 24 semester (36 quarter) hours of coursework in any area listed in option A, with 20 additional semester hours in any combination of Chemistry, Computer Science, Engineering Sciences, Geophysics, Oceanography, Mathematics, Meteorology, and Physics, plus experience in the disciplines of Hydrography or Bathymetry that includes marine surveying, the use of current GIS tools, methods of research and analysis, application of hydrographic or bathymetric principles, or a related area that demonstrates the ability to successfully perform the duties associated with this work. As a rule, every 30 semester (45 quarter) hours of coursework is equivalent to one year of experience. Candidates should show that their combination of education and experience totals 4 years. -AND- LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS: Designation as an American Congress on Surveying and Mapping-The Hydrographic Society of America (ACSM-THSOA) Certified Hydrographer, or similar certification is highly desired.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT: Distinguish principal colors and shades/hues of principal colors; Near visual acuity of 20/60 or better with or without corrective lensesDESIRABLE QUALIFICATION CRITERIA: In addition to the mandatory qualifications, experience in the following is desired: 1. Familiarity with hydrographic and bathymetric data processing software, such as Fledermaus, Qimera, CARIS, and/or HYPACK.2. Basic knowledge of scripting programs such as Python, R, FME, or MATLAB.3. Rudimentary experience with process improvement (i.e. identifying process issues, collaborating with team members to solve process problems, etc.).4. Experience communicating ongoing work to peers and leadership through written, visual, and/or spoken reports or briefings. 5. Basic knowledge of underwater acoustic theory.
