Pecos National Historical Park (Pecos, New Mexico) Salary $38,062-$74,970 Per Year
Park is located 2 miles south of the village of Pecos, New Mexico on State Highway 63, 4 miles north of interstate 25. Pecos NHP is 25 miles east of Santa Fe and 44 miles to the west of Las Vegas, New Mexico. The multi-cultural resource of the park are enclosed in a predominately pinon/juniper woodland plant community with elevation from 6900 to 7400 feet. Precipitation averages 7 to 10 inches per year. Snowfall averages 12 to 16 inches in the winter. Average maximum winter temperature is 40 degrees. Average maximum summer temperature is 80 degrees. Las Vegas and Santa Fe provide all modern amenities and collegiate opportunities while Santa Fe provides all the cultural features of a major metropolitan area. Wilson's Creek National Battlefield (Republic, Missouri) Salary $46,696-$74,250 Per Year
Park is seeking a dynamic individual with a passion for uncovering untold stories and engaging audiences in learning about and commemorating pivotal events in our history as a nation. This position will serve in a leadership role within the division of interpretation, education, and volunteers. Major duties include specializing in Historic Weapons Safety and Demonstration supervising the historic black powder weapons program, coordinating volunteers, purchasing, and managing day to day operations of the educational programs at the site. Major Duties:
Develop and present formal and informal audience and learner-centered interpretive experiences
Present interpretive media applying interpretive skills, techniques, and tools delivered in-person.
Conduct scientific and/or historical research, using interpretive techniques based on audience, medium, resource, and setting.
Enhance in-park interpretive experiences developing and offering a variety of accessible nonpersonal services and media.
Oversee, develop, and design materials such as video, audio, waysides, publications, exhibits, media, and other digital content.
Connect with audiences through digital content (e.g., the web, social media, live broadcast, podcasts, virtual tours) to introduce, inform, engage, and strengthen relationships between the public and their national parks.
Connect Park content to nps.gov and other service-wide platforms or digital efforts to create interpretive opportunities.
Engage in and monitor visitor services provided by lower graded employees, oversee, and recommend improvements.
Review existing park policies, standards, methods, controls, and procedures. Rove Park and/ or patrol areas and explain regulations to park visitors and provide information and advice on park activities and cultural, historical, and/or natural resources.
Coordinate the operation of a visitor facility and/or information desk.

Additional Major Duties:
Use of historic weapons for interpretive demonstrations.
Operate equipment and participate in demonstrations of weapons-firing.
In addition to the major duties may be responsible for the following, dependent on the park selected: Cooperating Associations, Cultural Resource Support, Education Program Coordination, Fee Collection, Historic Weapons Safety and Demonstrations, Interpretive Media/Visual Information Production, Technology, Web, and Social Media Coordination, and/ or Volunteer Program Coordination.
Duties will be developmental in nature when filled below the full performance level GS09.
Qualifications
All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-09/11/2023-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement.
Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. For current Federal employees, if hours worked per week are not included on your resume, you must submit a non-award SF-50 as part of your application to be used to validate your work schedule and determine the amount of specialized experience that you will be granted. An award SF-50 will not be acceptable documentation for which to consider your amount of qualifying experience. For all other applicants who are not current federal employees, your resume must state either "full-time" (or "40 hours a week") or "part-time" with the number of hours worked per week to ensure proper crediting of specialized experience.
For periods of time that reflect military service, the DD-214 or Statement of Service is sufficient to meet the full and/or part-time hours requirement as the service dates will be reflected.

All applicants must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:
GS-05 Level:
Must possess 1 full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GL/GS-04 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors), performing work that provided broad knowledge of resource protection, resource education, and public use management. Examples where this experience could have been gained include serving as a park guide or tour leader; conducting law enforcement or investigative work; responding to emergencies, archaeological or historical preservation work; forestry or fire management; or similar operations.
Four years of education above high school (120 semester hours or 180 quarter hours) leading to a bachelor's degree with 24 semester hours of course work in a related field. (Related fields of study include natural resource management, natural sciences, earth sciences, history, archaeology, anthropology, park and recreation management, law enforcement/police science, social sciences, museum sciences, business administration, public administration, behavioral sciences, sociology, or other closely related subjects pertinent to the management and protection of natural and cultural resources).
Equivalent combination of education and experience.
GS-07 Level:
Must possess 1 full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GL/GS-05 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors), performing work that provided broad knowledge of resource protection, resource education, and public use management. Examples where this experience could have been gained include serving as Park Ranger conducting interpretive, law enforcement or investigative work; responding to emergencies, archaeological or historical preservation work; forestry or fire management; management. Or program specialist work involving the development and implementation of policy related to protection, conservation and management of park areas or similar operations. Creditable experience must be comparable in scope and responsibility to the normal line of progression. Technical or assistant level work equivalent to the GL/GS-05 is not qualifying at the GL/GS-07 level.
One full year of graduate study in a related field. Related fields include natural resource management, natural sciences, earth sciences, history, archeology, anthropology, park and recreation management, law enforcement/police science, social sciences, museum sciences, business administration, public administration, behavioral sciences, sociology, or other closely related subjects pertinent to the management and protection of natural and cultural resources. Course work in fields other than those specified may be accepted if it clearly provides applicants with the background of knowledge and skills necessary for successful job performance in the position to be filled. (One year of graduate education is 18 semester hours or 27 quarter hours). You must include a copy of your transcripts.
Superior Academic Achievement based on: 1) class standing, 2) grade-point average, or 3) honor society membership. Specific requirements are: 1) Class Standing: Upper third of graduating class based on completed courses; 2a) Grade Point Average: 3.0 or higher as recorded on official transcript or as computed based on 4 years of education; 2b) based on courses completed during the final full 2 years of curriculum; or 2c) 3.5 or higher based on average of courses completed in the specific major field of study; or 3) Honor Society Membership: Election to membership in a national scholastic honor society listed in the Association of College Honor Societies, Booklet of Information, and/or Baird's Manual of American College Fraternities (membership in a freshman honor society cannot be used to meet the requirements of this provision). A combination of specialized experience and graduate study. The total must equal at least 100 percent in order to meet this description.
GS-09 Level:
Must possess one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GL/GS-07 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors), performing work that provided broad knowledge of resource protection, resource education, and public use management. Examples where this experience could have been gained include serving as Park Ranger conducting interpretive, law enforcement or investigative work; responding to emergencies; or program specialist work involving the development and implementation of policy related to protection, conservation and management of park areas or similar operations. Creditable experience must be comparable in scope and responsibility to the normal line of progression. Technical or assistant level work equivalent to the GL/GS-07 is not qualifying at the GL/GS-09 level.
2 full academic years of progressively higher-level graduate education or master's, or equivalent graduate degree related to the occupation. Fields include natural resource management, natural sciences, earth sciences, history, archeology, anthropology, park and recreation management, law enforcement/police science, social sciences, museum sciences, business administration, public administration, behavioral sciences, sociology, or other closely related subjects pertinent to the management and protection of natural and cultural resources. Course work in fields other than those specified may be accepted if it clearly provides applicants with the background of knowledge and skills necessary for successful job performance in the position to be filled. Education
To qualify based on education, you must submit a legible copy of transcripts from an
accredited institution with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking. Transcripts do not need to be official, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work.
