The Painter works in Facilities Management of the Medical Center. The incumbent will have the skill and knowledge of surface preparation, coating methods and techniques. The Painter possesses the skill to apply coating materials by any of the accepted techniques. Incumbent works under the supervision of the Building Management Unit Supervisor.

Duties

The VAMC in Memphis, TN consists of one main campus located at 1030 Jefferson Avenue, which includes a 60-bed Spinal Cord Injury Unit, and nine community based outpatient clinics (CBOC). It is a tertiary care facility classified as a Clinical Referral Level I Facility and one of the most complex medical centers in the VA system. Specialized outpatient services are provided through general, specialty, and subspecialty outpatient clinics including a women's health center. Services are available to more than 206,000 Veterans living in a 53-county tri-state area (Tennessee, Arkansas, and Mississippi). Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Incumbent prepares, and coats surfaces from ladders, scaffolds and platforms. Incumbent will be required to work in areas where the surface to be coated is in cramped and hard to reach areas. Incumbent is required to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Incumbent frequently lifts, carries and sets up materials and equipment that weigh up to 10 pounds. Occasionally incumbent may handle materials and equipment that weight 40 pounds and over. The position requires heavy lifting, 45 pounds and over; heavy carrying, 45 pounds and over; pulling; pushing; reaching; walking prolonged standing; crawling; kneeling; repeated bending; climbing. Use of fingers, both hands, arms and legs required; Far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and to 20/40 in the other; Depth perception; Ability to distinguish basic colors; Ability to distinguish shades of colors; Hearing (aid permitted).
