The VA Northeast Ohio Healthcare System is recruiting for a full time Physiologist to work in Cardiology.

Duties

The Exercise Physiologist duties include, but are not limited to: Observes and records veterans' response to the activity, including monitoring and recognizing intended and adverse cardiovascular and pulmonary response. Provides support to cardiac rehab: consult placement, ECG interpretation, clinical support for Cardiac rehab staff. Recognizes the need for urgent/emergency care of the veteran, and takes appropriate action. Provides patient education on areas of cardio-pulmonary rehabilitation, fitness and exercise programs. Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to make recommendations for the patient's rehabilitation, reintegration, and disposition needs. Reviews medical information to identify patient cardiovascular risk factors to consider in planning education and interventions. Interprets physician treatment plans. Evaluates patients to establish a baseline function. Develops and implements ongoing, individualized therapy treatment programs with measurable or time specific goals. Re-evaluates and alters treatment plan based upon patient progress and specific needs. Communicate effectively to educate patients, families and facility staff about cardio-pulmonary rehabilitation, STRIDE and Gero-Fit programs. Makes recommendations for appropriate home exercise equipment and provides orientation to exercise equipment including. Monitors patient use of home equipment and their physical response to exercise, including documentation of adverse events. Performs ongoing review of in-patient residents with a variety of diagnoses regarding physical and functional status while ambulated. Documents patient encounters, progress notes and consults. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 09/05/2023. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-11 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-09. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. You may qualify based on your experience and/or educationas described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-09 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: evaluating the exercise tolerance, strength, and cardiovascular response to exercise; developing and delivering aerobic, strengthening, and general fitness programs; identifying cardiovascular risk factors in order to begin planning education and interventions and determine the existence of any comorbidities or complications that may increase the risk of an adverse outcome, or in the case of a cardiac rehabilitation patient, a recurrent cardiac event; Initiating and performing CardioPulmonary Exercise Testing; and guiding and educating Stress Lab and PRN staff, with respect to training, ECG interpretation, and guidelines. OR, Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have for the GS-11 level, 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in a related field. You must have an combination of specialized experience and education equivalent to what is described above. TRANSCRIPT(S) MUST BE SUBMITTED IF EDUCATION IS BEING USED TO QUALIFY. You will be rated on the following Competencies for this position: Patient Care Technical Competence Problem Solving Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: The work involves a wide range of physical demands from sedentary work, sitting in a standard office setting, to moderate and heavy physical demands which include the ability to lead exercise demonstrations and transfer patients in an emergency setting when necessary within the facility (i.e. cardiac arrest during the cardiopulmonary exercise test or six minute walk). The work will require long periods of standing, walking, bending, crouching, reaching and leading exercise demonstrations. On occasion, incumbent must be capable of assisting with transferring patients that may weigh over three hundred pounds (identifying and utilizing appropriate safe patient handling equipment).
