This position is located in the Pharmacy Branch, Northern Navajo Medical Center, Shiprock, NM. The purpose of this position is to serve as the Supervisory Pharmacist, manages and provides direct clinical pharmacy services; responsible for management and administration, providing ongoing analysis to develop programs, and direct and manage programs and activities of the Pharmacy. NNMC is a teaching institution for pharmacy (students, residents, and co-steps), medical students, and residents.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): Note: Employees currently assigned to positions in this occupational series as of September 2017 will be considered to have met the basic requirements for the position occupied. Education: A doctoral degree in Pharmacy that is recognized by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (external link) (ACPE) or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (external link) at the time the degree was obtained. Licensure: Applicants must be licensed to practice pharmacy in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. Experience: Applicant's qualifications background must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, abilities, and competencies necessary to perform the work of the position. Pharmacy work requires knowledge of the use, clinical effects, and composition of medications, including their chemical, biological, and physical properties. Qualifying professional pharmacy experience may involve, but is not limited to: Dispensing medications prescribed by physicians and other health practitioners and providing information to health practitioners and patients about proper usage of medications and side effects; Evaluating medication use patterns and outcomes for patients in hospitals or managed care organizations; Performing administrative, consultative, or staff advisory work for a medical facility's pharmacy program; Planning, monitoring and evaluating medication programs or regimens; Establishing medication-handling procedures for the storage and preservation of medications; Researching medical literature and/or clinical medication information to provide accurate responses to inquiries; and/or Maintaining all medication records required by law and accreditation standards. Applicant's qualifications and background must also demonstrate leadership and innovation in the area of Pharmacy Management: specifically preparation for accreditation and regulatory audits, medication error management and resolution, program assessment and areas of improvement. Basic Requirements for the GS-13 and above Grade Levels: In addition to the licensure and educational requirements described above, a minimum of one year of professional pharmacy experience that is equivalent to at least the next lower grade level. Medical Requirements: Applicants must be able to distinguish basic colors. In addition, to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below- MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Providing and/or overseeing all inpatient pharmacy services for a large medical facility; serving as a point of contact with regard to all inpatient pharmacy related issues; creating or revising medication related policies and procedures to conform to regulatory and accreditation standards; ensuring appropriate staffing for safe departmental operations; managing pharmaceutical inventory and ensuring proper storage, handling, and labeling of drugs; ensuring safe preparation of the complete range of sterile products including parenteral nutrition, chemotherapy, and critical care agents; collaborating with informatics staff, department managers, and end-users to ensure medication-related technology operates smoothly and safely; evaluating program effectiveness through data collection/compilation and analysis of quality measures; advising medical staff of potential drug safety or shortage issues; taking steps to prevent medication errors and adverse reactions; and providing education of pharmacy techniques to other pharmacists. SUPERVISORY AND MANAGERIAL ABILITIES: Candidates must have demonstrated in their work experience or training that they possess, or have the potential to develop, the qualities of successful supervision, as listed under the appropriate category below: Ability to motivate, train and work effectively with subordinates who have a variety of background and training. Ability to accomplish the quality and quantity of work expected with set limits of cost and time. Ability to plan own work and carry out assignments effectively. Ability to communicate with others effectively, both orally and in writing, in working out solutions to problems or questions related to work. Ability to understand and further manage goals as these affect day-to-day work operations. Ability to develop improvements in or design new work methods and procedures. You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement. Position is open until filled, the position may close earlier than the current closing date.
