About the Position: As Chief, of the Architectural Section is responsible for; practical application of the principals of architecture and architectural design for all civil works and military projects under the jurisdiction of the Savannah District. The military work may include others such as but is not limited to design and technical support for; the Department of Defense (DoD), other United States of America Corps of Engineers (USACE) Districts, and/or other Governmental agencies.
Duties
Assign work to subordinates and assuring tasks are completed in a timely manner and in accordance with agency criteria and project functional requirements.
Plan, assign, and evaluate work of the Architecture Section, in developing architectural plans and studies, drawings, and narratives for design memoranda, layout, and related computations.
Review and approve architectural design analysis, drawings and specifications prepared for completeness, accuracy, suitability, and compliance with sound and economical design principles, and with Army, Air Force and Corps of Engineers criteria.
Responsible for all administrative work involving schedules, administrative reports, and personnel matters, as well as the expediting of work to conform with established schedules.
Plans and assigns work to subordinates, determining work schedules and priorities.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Basic Requirement for Supervisory Architect:
A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in architecture or in a related field that included 60 semester hours of course work in architecture or related disciplines of which at least (1) 30 semester hours were in architectural design, and (2) 6 semester hours were in each of the following: structural technology, properties of materials and methods of construction, and environmental control systems.

B. Combination of Education and Experience: College-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the arts and sciences underlying professional architecture, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the architectural principles, methods, and techniques and their applications to the design and construction or improvement of buildings. The adequacy of such background must be demonstrated by at least one of the following: (1) Related Curriculum - Degree in architectural engineering provided the completed course work in architectural engineering provided knowledge, skills, and abilities substantially equivalent to those provided in the courses specified in statement A above, or (2) Experience: 1 year of experience in an architect's office or in architectural work for each year short of graduation from a program of study in architecture. In the absence of any college courses, 5 years of such experience is required. This experience must have demonstrated that you have acquired a thorough knowledge of the fundamental principles and theories of professional architecture.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Serve as technical consultant for solutions to problems involving architecture. (2) Advises on the proper operation and maintenance of installed systems. (3) Prepare and/or supervise the preparation of special studies, investigations, and reports covering architecture problems. (4) Responsible for the preparation of preliminary construction cost estimates based upon general plans, and quantity takeoffs for detailed cost estimates.

Identifying the most economical and efficient solutions for site development problems; 2) Designing large and complex architectural features; 3) Preparing contract documents such as, but not limited to specifications, Statements of Work (SOW) and cost estimates; 4)This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify.

Selective Placement Factor: This position requires a current, active, valid Registered Architect license in a state, the District of Columbia, or a territory of the United States (Note: You must attach a copy of your license).

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-12).
