Robert J. Dole VA Medical Center is seeking to fill positions as a Health Technician within our Perioperative Care - Cardiology Department.
DIRECT HIRE AUTHORITY: This position is being filled using Direct-Hire Authority (5 CFR 337.201) for this occupation.
Duties
The Cardiology Department consists of cardiology, nuclear medicine, ultrasounds, and EKG monitoring clinics and cardiac catheterization lab. The Health Technician will be the administrative and clinical support personnel for the Specialty Care Service Team - Cardiology Department.

Qualifications

GS-07 grade level:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-06 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: providing direct patient care in a health care setting; completion of appropriate forms and referral, data collection, and determine eligibility and medical treatment. Experience as a Health Technician (or similar occupation) in a Cardiology setting. Cardiac monitoring using appropriate telemetry equipment such as EKG, cardiac monitors, and other diagnostic equipment; measuring, printing and interpreting rhythms at designated intervals and as needed; validating and invalidating alarms; monitoring patient's vital signs; recognizing, responding, and reporting signs and changes in cardiac rhythms; recognizing life threatening situations and notifying RN while initiating emergency procedures; identifying and troubleshooting potential telemetry equipment malfunctions; and ability to use computers and other basic office equipment to enter data. OR,
Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have successfully one full year of graduate education meets the requirements for GS-7 . If education is used to meet specialized experience requirements, then such education must include courses directly related to the work of the position. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED). NOTE: Graduate education or an internship meets the specialized experience required above GS-5 only in those instances where it is directly related to the work of the position. OR,
Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have an combination of specialized experience and education. To calculate, first identify the percentage of required education you have earned (when substituting, you cannot use the first 60 semester hours that you earned). Then identify the percentage of required experience you possess. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify at the GS-XX. For example, an applicant who has 9 semester hours of graduate level education (i.e. 50% of graduate education required) and 6 months of creditable specialized experience (i.e. 50% of the required experience) would equal 100% of the required experience for the position A transcript must be submitted with your application if you are basing all or part of your qualifications on education.
