The VA Medical Center (VAMC) Green Environmental Management Systems (GEMS) Coordinator is the key member of the VAMC GEMS Committee responsible for coordinating the development and implementation for the VA GEMS across VAMC organizational elements.
Duties
Responsible for coordinating the efforts of VA Medical Center Staff involved with GEMS to ensure that the GEMS is developed and implemented in accordance with VHA and Medical Center policy and guidance.
Provides leadership and direction to management, professional and technical personnel regarding the development and implementation of the facility GEMS.
Plans, organizes, implements, oversees and provides technical assistance for projects to resolve environmental problems.
Provides technical expertise for the design, modification, operation and maintenance of VA Medical Center facilities and infrastructure to ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
Responsible for managing VAMC environmental program(s) and coordinating efforts of VAMC organizations that relate to environmental matters.
Develop and implement environmental policies, procedures and systems.
Work Schedule: Monday to Friday 8am - 430pm

Physical Requirements: Work requires incumbent to carry a good deal of equipment and involves walking, standing, bending, climbing or crawling during surveys.

Qualifications

Basic Requirement: Do you possess a bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree in industrial hygiene, occupational health sciences, occupational and environmental health, toxicology, safety sciences, or related science. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED) OR a bachelor's degree in a branch of engineering, physical science, or life science that included 12 semester hours in chemistry, including organic chemistry, and 18 additional semester hours of courses in any combination of chemistry, physics, engineering, health physics, environmental health, biostatistics, biology, physiology, toxicology, epidemiology, or industrial hygiene. In addition to meeting the Individual Occupational Requirement you must also meet one year specialized experience (equivalent to the next lower grade, GS-11 in the federal service).
GS-12 grade level: One year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the federal service); experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) and other characteristics to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience includes, but not limited to: ensure Green Environmental Management Systems (GEMS) is developed and implemented in accordance with an organization policy and guidance; plan, organizes, implements, oversees and provides technical assistance for projects to resolve environmental problems; and managing environmental programs(s) and coordinating the efforts of an organization that relate to environmental matters. This experience must be supported by your resume to be creditable.
