Duties

If selected for this position, you will join a well-respected team that is responsible for implementing and carrying out all phases of existing programs designed to provide protection or relocation to witnesses, as well as, the development of new initiatives to safeguard witnesses in the Victim Witness Assistance Unit of the United States Attorney's Office for the District of Columbia. Typical work assignments will include: - Maintains individual caseload statistics and submits monthly reports to supervisor addressing program activity. - Provides documentation for case file audits.- Monitors case progress; addressing and resolving issues that arise during process. - Assists in determining program eligibility by assessing information and documentation. - Conducts risk assessment for threats against victims and witnesses, which may occur in stressful and emergency situation. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress. This position requires the ability to receive and retain a Top Secret security clearance.

Requirements

• You must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
• Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory pre-employment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation.

Qualifications

GS-11:To be qualified for the GS-11 (position), you must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 level in the Federal Service; or a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related; or a combination of specialized experience and education. Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized Experience is defined as utilizing investigative techniques, interview experience and communication skills to conduct interviews involving victims and witnesses of crimes to gather information; reviewing and assessing documented threats against victims and witnesses in determining program eligibility, level of security risk, assistance and/or services required for victims and witness; networking with other staff members and organizations in arranging for services for victims and witnesses; coordinating interviews and conferences with attorneys and law enforcement officials; using automated databases to perform criminal history checks; arranging transportation, monitoring expenditures and substance payments for witnesses; reconciling monthly credit card statements and providing financial information to Finance Unit; preparing and completing case paperwork and documentation, monitoring case status, and ensuring assigned cases are complete, up-to-date, secure and disposition noted; providing financial information to the Budget office to reconcile accounts; maintaining documentation necessary to complete audits; and other duties as may be assigned. OR Education: a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related. Education at the graduate level must be in an accredited college or university and must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the duties of the position. OR Combining Education and Experience: a combination of specialized experience and education which when combined equal 100% of the requirements. Combinations of successfully completed graduate education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements. In order to qualify based on a combination, graduate education must be in excess of 2 full years.
