Located at the VA Medical Center in Clarksburg, WV, this position is responsible for delivering a broad array of health care services throughout the Medical Center.

Duties

***THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION*** Major duties and responsibilities include: Transporting patients to areas throughout the medical center; Provides a range of personal care as needed to include bathing, toileting, hair and nail care, and dressing in personal clothing while maintaining privacy and dignity of inpatient/resident; Assists as needed with eating, drinking, positioning/ turning, ambulating, transferring, and escorting inpatients/residents; Maintains general cleanliness of the inpatient/resident's environment; Performs a range of clinical support duties, which include taking, recording vital signs and reporting deviations to the RN; Collects urine, stool, sputum and other specimens for Laboratory analysis; Observes and report changes in resident's physical condition, pain levels, and/or behavioral changes; Performs discharge bed cleaning duties due to patient inter ward transfers, deaths and discharges; Performs other related duties as assigned Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm Recruitment & Relocation Incentives: Not authorized Financial Disclosure Report: Not Required DESIGNATED DRUG-TESTING POSITION: Applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA. Applicants will not be appointed to the position if a verified positive drug test result is received.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY: In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), No person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English. You must be proficient in basic written and spoken English in order to meet the requirements of this position. ~AND~ SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: At least six (6) months of general experience. General experience is (1) Any type of work that demonstrates the applicant's ability to perform the work of the position, or (2) experience that provided a familiarity with the subject matter or processes of the broad subject area the occupation. General experience includes providing assistance in a healthcare or other patient care or personal care environment. ~OR~ EDUCATION: Successful completion of one (1) full year of education above high school level that included study in medical, health, or related fields. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business or technical school, junior college, college or university for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. You will be rated on the following Competencies as part of the assessment questionnaire for this position: Attention to DetailCustomer Service (Clerical/Technical)Decision MakingVeteran and Customer Focus IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Duties require extensive periods of standing and walking. Working with residents requires regular and recurring bending, lifting (not to exceed 35 pounds), reaching, carrying, stooping, stretching and similar activities. Care duties are performed in an inpatient/resident-centered environment requiring normal safety precautions. Due to the essential functions of the job, the employee may be exposed to infectious waste, disease, odors, and other situations associated with health care, including but not limited to, HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis B, MRSA, and VRE. Universal precautions are followed at all times. While if completing kitchen responsibilities may be exposed to temperatures of refrigerators/freezers and ovens, as well as wet floors.
