About the Position: The position is located at Camp Stanley and is approximately 25 miles north of downtown San Antonio, TX. The spirit of Texas is captured in San Antonio retaining its sense of history and tradition, blending sounds/flavors from Old Mexico to the Deep South. The River Walk offers much to the tourist; side walk cafes, restaurants, as well as the nightclubs and hotels. San Antonio also offers two major theme parks, Sea World of Texas and Six Flags Fiesta Texas.

Duties

Repair wooden and wood substitute items and structures, such as, framework, rafters, bearings and trusses; interior and exterior trim; staircases; and building additions and modifications. Plan work from initial layout to final assembly by interpreting and applying building plans, specifications, blueprints, sketches and other guides and codes, to determine techniques and materials best suited to do the work. Ensure structural soundness of completed work which involves understanding weak and stress points and ensuring proper reinforcement, propping and bracing. Utilize tools and equipment, such as, plumb lines, chalk lines, spirit level, dividers, calipers, marking gauges, framing squares, jointers, shapers, tenoners, routers, and lathes as well as common hand and power tools to do the work. Apply paint to interior surfaces of buildings, window frames, door walls, trim, steps, porches and other surfaces of buildings which have been repaired or replaced with new materials. Remove old paint, dirt, dust, rust and corrosion. Perform drivers maintenance in accordance with established rules and regulations.

Requirements

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
  • A pre-employment physical is required.
  • Must comply with drug abuse testing program requirements.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid stateside driver's license.
  • This position is covered by the 1996 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor or felony crime of domestic violence are not eligible for the position.

Physical coordination required in operating vehicles. Working Conditions: Works inside and outside. Inside, is exposed to moderate or high noise levels from operating machinery, sawdust in the air, glue and paint fumes, and hazards associated with woodworking and related power equipment. Outside, may be exposed to weather conditions and hazards of working on and around scaffolds and ladders. Subject to cuts, falls, bruises and burns from hand or power tools. Performs truck-driving duties in all weather conditions. May work in confined areas such as crawl spaces and attics which may be dusty and dirty. Uses protective devices such as ear plugs, safety glasses, respirators, and gloves. Duties require a good knowledge of driving procedures and regulations. Driver is exposed to traffic hazards including the possibility of serious accidents. Required to obtain a government driver's license to drive up to and including a 5-ton truck to drive self and others, materials and equipment to and from work site.
