About the Position: Serves as first line supervisor over a Utilities Maintenance Branch, exercising full supervisory responsibility over work operations involving approximately 15 to 18 subordinate workers. Install, troubleshoot, repair and maintain a variety of electronic equipment throughout the Tooele Army Depot.

Duties

Install, troubleshoot, repair, maintain, rebuild, and/or apply modification to, and make performance tests on a variety of electronic equipment. Repair electronic components such as solid state, electronic and electric controls, sensors, detectors, meters, and pump motors. Repair high pressure boiler systems, large industrial refrigerated systems, and a full range of high voltage and low voltage electrical systems. Repair complex piping systems for air and water both high and low pressure, operate boilers, compressed air systems and fire alarm systems. Adjust plans, assignments, and methods as necessary to accomplish the work as effectively and economically as feasible. Establish deadlines and priorities on the basis of general work schedules and methods and policies established. Plan work schedules and prepare estimates of costs. Determine how many assignments can be done concurrently, which ones must be delayed, and the number and types of employees needed. Explain work requirements, methods, and procedures; instruct subordinates in new procedures; and provide advice when problems arise. Review work for accuracy and compliance with instructions, policy, FEM, and if needed, recommend improvement of work methods. Inspect repair work performed on various boilers, air compressors, electrical components, piping, carpentry and other equipment or infrastructure. Recommend the contracting of jobs when work can be done more quickly or economically by commercial organizations; when contracting is proposed by others, may make counter recommendations furnishing substantiating reasons.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position comes under the Drug Abuse Testing Program and the incumbent will be tested in accordance with AR 600-85.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
  • Employee is required to have his/her name on a call out list and be called back to work during non-duty hours (including weekends) to support emergency situations or make emergency repairs.
  • Employee is required to have, or obtain within 6 months after job appointment, the required state and Federal government licenses and certifications needed to perform the job requirements.
  • Incumbent must be cleared IAW requirements of AR 190-11. Physical Security of Arms, Ammunition and Explosives (AAandE).

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Electronics Mechanic (AC Equipment Mechanic) Supervisor without more than normal supervision. Installing, modifying, overhauling, maintaining, troubleshooting, and/or repairing electronics equipment. Troubleshooting, installing, repairing and/or maintaining malfunctions in electronic systems. Interpreting drawings, specifications, and schematics of electronic systems. Repairing and/or modifying refrigeration and environmental equipment. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability To Lead or SuperviseAbility to Plan and Organize WorkKnowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc.Technical Competence Physical Effort: Moderate to physical effort required due to the size of the equipment involved. As supervisor, you may have to assist in lifts, carries, and sets up parts and equipment weighing up to 45 pounds, occasionally heavier weights with assistance. Often must supervise employees and inspect repairs from ladders, scaffolding, platforms, and hard-to-reach places requiring bending, kneeling, and stooping. Subject to frequent cramped and awkward positions. Work requires prolonged standing and continuous movement of hands and arms. Working Conditions: Works inside and outside in all kinds of weather. Subject to sudden temperature changes. There is frequently exposure to dirt, dust, grease, noise, odor, smoke, and possibility of toxic fumes. May be exposed to explosive munitions. Subject to burns, cuts and electric shock. Exposure to prolonged, repeated, or concentrated amounts of refrigerant gases may cause toxic affects to eyes, skin or internal organs. Protective clothing or devices, including uncomfortable respirators or masks are required to mitigate the risk from these conditions. PPE is required daily including safety shoes, safety eye wear, and hearing protection. Other PPE may be required less frequently to address other working conditions, to include safety vests, respirators, hard hats, gloves and more.
