About the Position: Join us at the United States Southern Command. We provide direct support to a four-star unified Combatant Commander, but are compact enough that our staff also works with senior leadership representatives of our inter-service, inter-agency and (public and private) international partner organizations. Our contribution to furthering our country's relationships with South and Central American nations and peoples are substantial.

Duties

Serves as a Public Affairs Specialist in the Public Affairs Office, United States Southern Command (USSOUTHCOM). Conceives, develops, executes and evaluates all aspects of the USSOUTHCOM Visual Information Program to include video, print, broadcast and Internet based media forums and command information releases. Provides public affairs support essential to maintaining and enhancing the image of the USSOUTHCOM and its Components. Markets command's activities via appropriate communications medium to internal civilian and military media

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience applying principles and methods in managing a public affairs program involving media relations, civic outreach, planning and execution of nationally prominent events, internal information, visual information, communication planning/research/analysis, standardization and evaluation, emerging technology/social media, security and policy review, public affairs resource management, or contingency planning and operations. Experience employing professional journalistic abilities to compose innovative and informative written materials to raise awareness in the command's various publics concerning the organization's mission and work force. Experience marketing the organization's activities via appropriate communications medium to internal civilian and military media. Experience managing the planning, development, preparation, production, and distribution of continuing and special command information products. Experience in social media production facets, to include audio and video podcasts, non-linear editing, computer animation effects, and the convergence of still photography, internet-quality video, and social media. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11). You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Communications and MediaContracting/ProcurementMultimedia Technologies Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-???????11).
