About the Position: The Food Service Worker provides meal service and food preparation for the dining facility within the command. Position requires incumbent to work a variety of morning and evening, weekday, weekend, and holiday shifts to support needs of the organization.
Duties
Arrange food items on trays for serving or further preparation.
Prepare cold food such as salads, sandwiches, and fruit for boxed lunches.
Portions food items such into standard serving sizes with the proper utensils and containers.
Perform heavy duty cleaning tasks throughout food service and related areas.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position has mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirements and is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons (documentation of exemption must be provided upon hire).
- This position may require the incumbent to have tuberculosis testing, complete a hepatitis screening, and/or receive a rubella and rubeola vaccine depending on command requirements.
- This position may require the incumbent to work on any day or shift, including PMs, nights, weekends, holidays, or on an "on call" basis, necessary to meet mission requirements.
- This position has been designated Mission Essential. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations, the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
- This position has been designated Weather Essential. In the event of inclement weather conditions, the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
- This position requires heavy lifting up to 35 pounds.
- This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Food Service Worker ~ without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform the most difficult and complex Food Service Worker tasks. I am skilled in performing various types of cooking methods including baking, sauteing, grilling, and frying; chopping and cutting fruits and vegetables into individual portions; packaging hot and cold foods for distribution to diners; cleaning and sanitizing food preparation and dining areas; establishing portion requirements to preserve supplies; monitoring food and supply inventory operations for a kitchen. I am considered an expert and work with a high degree of independence. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

PHYSICAL EFFORT: The work requires moderate to heavy physical effort involved in such activities as frequently lifting trays and loading dishwashers, scouring and scrubbing large-size cooking utensils and pushing heavy carts and trucks in unloading, storing and delivering supplies, constant standing or walking, lifting items weighing as much as 40 pounds, and frequently lifting items weighing over 50 pounds with assistance from other workers of the same or higher grade level.
WORKING CONDITIONS: The work is performed in a kitchen and class 1 ration storage area that is considered hot and humid caused by cooking and dishwashing equipment. The area is well lighted, noisy from food service activities and the employee is subject to slips or falls on floors. Also works in relatively cool areas depending upon the daily tasking. There is exposure to cuts, bruises, scrapes and burns while working in an area where cooking is performed. The employee is required to wear protective shoes, appropriate hearing protection, and gloves or other safety and food handling items required by food handling guides.
