About the Position: The Savannah District Office is located in the downtown historic district (largest in the nation) where you can live and walk to work. Gorgeous weather! Savannah is located on the Georgia/South Carolina border on the Atlantic Ocean and is easily accessible by I-95 and I-16. Savannah is home to Hunter Army Airfield and is 30 miles from Ft. Stewart, in Hinesville, GA. Savannah/Chatham County boasts a diversified industry and the population is approximately 240,000.
Duties
Plan and develop a variety of programs for use by various media.
Serve as Public Affairs Specialist in support of the Corporate Communications office mission of command information, media relations and public information.
Independently write and analyze stories, take photographs, creates basic graphics, and edit a variety of materials used for publishing content on the website and other digital platforms.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
- Appointment is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. GS-9 Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience at the GS-07 level of Federal work experience or the equivalent which includes experience in planning and evaluating major community events 2) developing public affairs plans for community relations 3) Preparing and releasing information for public consumption such as press releases and public announcements. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as Journalism, Communications, Public Relations field of study. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts).

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).
