About the Position: This position is located at Physical Medicine and Rehab, Directorate of Surgery, William Beaumont Army Medical Center, Fort Bliss, Texas.
This is a Direct Hire Solicitation.
Duties
Maintain individual surgical scheduling books and data base(s) as required.
Receive patient information to schedule pre-op and post-op appointments, effectively maximizing operating room utilization and efficiency.
Maintain and monitor patient appointment schedules for the unit/clinic.
Receive patients and visitors as the initial point of contact in person or telephonically. Record and relay messages and/or redirects calls as necessary.
Maintain all patients' records both electronic and paper according to regulation insuring each entry contains proper patient and health care provider identification.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
- Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
- Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
- Tuberculosis testing is required.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Red Cross or American Heart Association. Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Basic Requirement for Medical Support Assistant (Office Automation):
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience performing administrative, medical support, and clerical tasks; such as monitoring, scheduling and rescheduling patients for treatment; initiating, assembling, and/or filing medical records; Operate automated information systems to input, update, delete, or extract patient information. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).
OR
Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.
Proficiency Required: This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5-minute sample with three or fewer errors.
Education must have been obtained from an accredited program recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
