These positions are located in the Pacific West Region (Interior Regions 8,9,10 and 12).
Career-Seasonal appointments are permanent positions and include the same benefits as Career appointments, but do not provide work on a year-round basis. Non-pay dates vary depending on park unit.

Duties
Positions are being recruited at the following locations:
Cabrillo National Monument - San Diego, California--Career Seasonal, non-pay expected for one month, Sept-Oct.
Death Valley National Park - Death Valley, California--Career Seasonal, non-pay expected for one month, May-June; Driving Record required; Occasional Travel; Transit Subsidy may be available. Government housing MAY be available.
Hawaii Volcanoes National Park - Hawaii County, HI--Permanent Full-Time, Driving Record required; ability to lift 50 lbs. required.
Lake Mead National Recreation Area - Henderson, NV--Permanent Full-Time; Driving Record required; ability to lift 25 lbs. required; Government housing MAY be available.
Pu'uhonua o Honaunau National Historic Park, Honaunau, Hawaii County, HI--Career Seasonal, non-pay expected for one month, Feb-Mar; Occasional Travel on request.
Major duties include, but are not limited to:
Serve as a front-line, uniformed representative of the NPS, answering visitor questions and explaining the area's recreational opportunities, including NPS interpretive services, concession operated facilities and services, campground availability, hiking trails, etc.
Perform assignments in accordance with all NPS and U.S. Treasury regulations governing the handling of government funds.
Assist higher level personnel with auditing fee collection program components/systems (e.g., cash registers, road/trail registers, honor systems, automated fee machines or AFMs, donation boxes, etc.). Assist in completing audit paperwork and documenting findings. Communicate audit results to supervisor.
Prepare and complete remittance reports and bank deposits for funds donated and/or collected by others. Review shift reports and count funds collected; Investigate and proactively resolve routine or recurring discrepancies, and track overages, shortages, and errors.
Inventory and/or restock fee program supplies and assist with placing orders and preparing requisition requests for equipment/supplies as needed.
Collect appropriate fees at a park entrance station, visitor center, campground, fee cannister, AFMs, donation boxes, and/or other visitor contact station(s) in accordance with established accountability guidelines for handling government funds. Determine visitor eligibility for the sale of various interagency park passes.
At Death Valley National Park--In employing individuals to perform any construction, maintenance, interpretation, or other service in the park, the Secretary (Selecting Official) shall, in so far as practical, give first preference to qualified members of the Tribe": (Timbisha Shoshone Homeland Act, Nov 2000). To receive current preference eligibility, members of the Timbisha Shoshone Tribe must submit a copy (not the original) of the letter certifying their tribal membership.
Physical Demands: This position requires standing for long periods of time, as well as walking, bending, and lifting of moderately heavy items. Mental stress and physical fatigue occur due to high volume of personal contacts and the responsibility of dealing with large amounts of money. If applicable, extreme physical exertion may be required while performing search and rescue, wildland firefighting, or emergency response duties.
Working Conditions: This position typically works at an entrance station, campground office, fee office, remit office, visitor center, and/or visitor contact station. Work is often performed in small, outdoor structures with open windows which results in exposure to extremes of temperature, rain, snow, wind, and direct sunlight. Park areas may be geographically located in areas of high elevation, rugged terrain, or dense populations. High levels of vehicle noise and emissions may exist during heavy visitation periods. Duties may be performed alone and/or in isolated locations.
Air quality at Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park may be affected by volcanic sulfur dioxide gas (SO2) and particulate matter (PM2.5). Unhealthy levels of these pollutants can occur within the park. People with pre-existing respiratory conditions are especially sensitive to poor air quality.
Qualifications
All qualifications must be met by 11:59 PM EST when the applicant cut-off is reached (which may be sooner than 09/05/2023).
Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience.
Quality Ranking Factor: Handling Money - able to handle, collect, and account for money.
To qualify for this position at the GS-05 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:
EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as: handling, tracking, or depositing monies; using software programs to maintain financial/accounting data (such as fee and stock data); performing fee collection, accounting or financial duties; or using tools or equipment (e.g., cash registers, calculators, etc.) to make sales transactions; ensuring accountability of funds and accurate financial records. You must include hours per week worked.

EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least a 4-year course of study above high school in any field for which high school graduation, or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. This education was obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. Note: One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school. You must include transcripts.

Successful completion of an equivalent combination of education and experience. NOTE: Only education in excess of the first 60 semester/90 quarter hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester/45 quarter hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience. For example, 6 months of the specialized experience (50% of the experience requirement) and 1 academic year of study beyond the second year from an accredited institution (50% of the qualifying education), equals 100% of the total requirement. You must include hours per week worked and transcripts.
Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
