The primary purpose of this position, Aircraft Mechanical Parts Repairer Inspector Leader, WL-8840-11, is to serve as a working leader with delegated authority and responsibility to plan, direct, and accomplish the examination and inspection both visually and dimensionally.

Duties

Make work assignments to, and coordinates work assigned by the supervisor with, assigned team members. Perform the full range of inspection using a background of pertinent trade experience and examines a wide variety of incoming MISTR legacy landing gear and C-17 landing gear parts or assemblies to determine scope of repair and/or modification required to assure compliance with pertinent technical data, process orders, C-17 requirements, blueprints, and determines condition status, serviceable, repairable, or condemned. C-17 Microstructure inspection using Rollscan equipment to inspect surface treatment areas such as sub-chrome plated base metal, post-grinding, shot peening, carburizing and induction hardening on critical safety items, evaluate residual stresses, evaluate microstructural changes, creep and fatigue, burn indications, sub surface nickel application, and the evaluation of shot-peening effect in steel. Utilize a variety of precision measuring equipment (PME) such as, inside and outside micrometers, hole gauges, bore gauges, Johnson Gauges, highly complex precision measuring bore scopes, ultrasonic chrome thickness gages, calipers, thread gages, profilometers; and other electronic, digital, or mechanical (PME)to conduct both visual and dimensional inspections to evaluate and determine form, fit, functionality, and conditions of base metal and plated surfaces. Utilize safety practices and procedures and follow established safety rules and regulations to maintain a safe and clean work environment.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-8800 Aircraft Overhaul Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is Ability to Lead or Supervise. JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair etc. Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic). Use of Measuring Instruments. Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Trouble shooting PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The inspector lifts and carries items weighing 25 pounds and over with assistance or lifting devices. Walks, stands, bends, and sits frequently. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is done inside with adequate lighting and environmental controls, subject to shop noise, and caustic, toxic, and noxious vapors, may come in contact with grease, oil, cleaning solvents, may be exposed to moving machinery, cuts, abrasions, must take appropriate safety precautions and wear and use all prescribed safety equipment required.
