This position is located in the Medical Records Department at Dzilth-NA-O-Dith-Hle Health Center, Bloomfield, NM. The purpose of the position is to perform medical records technical duties which include processing and maintenance of a hybrid, including paper and electronic, environment. This includes analyzing, scanning, release of information, retrieval and dispatching charts, file management, archiving, and data entry. Incumbent reports to the Medical Records Administration Specialist.
Duties
Retrieves, processes, ensures the chart is complete with proper identification and dispatches records to the designated clinic. Pulls scheduled appointment charts and chart reviews. Health summaries are printed as needed.
Performs comprehensive quantitative/qualitative analysis of patient medical record daily to assure the presence of all component parts, such as: name, health record number, signatures and dates where required, and complete. Routes medical records back to the provider/department for completion.
Scans health and/or administrative documents into the electronic health record (EHR) system and makes the proper disposition according to established guidelines.
Receives and reviews all incoming requests from hospitals, attorneys, medical audit/review, Social Security Administration, private physicians, insurance companies, individual requests and others including subpoenas and medical statements. Abstracts medical information from paper/Electronic Health Record (EHR) and copy/print documents.
Abides by specific state, federal, Indian Health Service (IHS), Privacy Act (PA), Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), Medical legal, service unit and department policies and procedures.
Qualifications

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):
GS-05: 1 year Specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-04 OR 4 years above high school.
GS-06: 1 year Specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-05.
In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks:
GS-05: One full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-04 grade level that equipped me with the knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position. Examples include: Knowledge or other work related experience in the field of Health Information Management. Ability to perform clerical duties, i.e., completing charts, purging, scanning and filing.
GS-06: One year of specialized experiencecomparable in difficulty and responsibility to the GS-05 grade level that equipped me with the knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position. Examples include: Knowledge or other work related experience in the field of Health Information Management. Has work related experience in analyzing the medical record including compliance with HIPAA and the Privacy Act. Ability to perform medical record duties, i.e., completing charts, purging, scanning and filing. Knowledge of policies/procedures and regulations for CMS, JC and other regulating agencies.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
