This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Major Range Test Facility Base (MRTFB) to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
About the Position: This is a Term position scheduled to last 3 years. A term position may be extended to a maximum of six years depending upon the needs of management.
Duties
Serve as a calibration specialist in the parameters of electrical, electronic, microwave, nucleonic, optical/laser, physical and dimensional standards and measurements applicable to the calibration, certification and evaluation of test,
Select, apply, and interpret electronic principles and practices as related to the specialty area as required to collect, reduce, display, analyze data, and provide metrology information for a wide variety of general purpose TMDE.
Prepare reports to correct errors in existing procedures and provides technical information used in the decision making process for the development of documents used for TMDE certification.
Provide calibration traceability through the Army Calibration Laboratory and Army Primary Standards Laboratory to the National Institute of Standards and Technology.
Perform repairs incidental to calibration as required by equipment specifications.
Measurements applicable to the calibration, certification and evaluation of test, measurement and diagnostic equipment (TMDE).

- This is an Obligated position. The former incumbent has return rights to this position.
- Term employment is subject to a one year trial period. Employees serving a trial period can be removed with limited appeal rights.

- The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.

There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.
Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Precision Measurement Equipment Calibrator without more than normal supervision. Ability to perform precision measurement equipment calibration basic repair of test equipment and related components and use high precision standards, (e.g., multimeters, signal generators, oscilloscopes). Work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
Physical Effort: The work may require long periods of standing or sitting along with some walking or bending during the course of extended periods on measurements. Requires frequent lifting, carrying, and handling of items weighing up to 40 pounds with occasional requirements to lift items in excess of 50 pounds.
Working Conditions: The work is performed in laboratories and user facilities where technicians are exposed to the hazards of high voltage high pressure, high and low temperatures, chemicals and radiation. Calibrators must comply with all safety regulations applicable to the calibration mission.
