DBCPC is responsible to the WVPP Manager and ultimately to the ACOS of Mental Health, exercising initiative and independent judgment in day-to-day activities. In the unusual and/or complex administrative and clinical problems, the incumbent initiates consultation with the Chief of Staff as well as the other authoritative resources at VA such as regional counsel, business services, fiscal and human resource management services with guidance from WVPP Manager and/or ACOS of Mental Health.

Duties

VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package: VA Nurse Total Rewards Coordination of all aspects of DBC Appointed by Chief of Staff (COS) to lead a team of Administrative and Clinical Executives such as Chief of Staff or Designee, Chief of Police or Designee, Regional Council (Ad-Hoc) Patient Safety, ACOS of Mental Health or Designee, to assess, triage and manage patient-generated disruptive behavior immediately. Responsible of overseeing the day to day business of the committee Duties and skills needed to be successful in this position include, but are not limited to: Work with Administrative support assistant to produce agenda and minutes with follow-up to all decisions of business items at the committee meetings. Average of two meetings per month with AD-HOC meetings as needed. In conjunction with the ACOS of Mental Health Services and WVPP Manager, responsible for the implementation, education, training and updates for policy MCM 11.22.142 Workplace Violence Prevention, to include Disruptive Behavior. Coordinate quality improvement projects around disruptive behavior. Responsible for the management of computer-based flagging systems (DBRS) for identifying potentially violent or dangerous Veteran patients, including review every 2 years maximum and maintaining a record of all patient flag reviews. The incumbent will evaluate new requests for flags regarding dangerous warning of patients. Incumbent will attend DBC new chair intensive training within 90 days of hire or earliest scheduled training offered by Central office. Incumbent will attend bi-annual DBC all chair conference conducted by Central office. Participate in monthly DBC Community of Practice and Violence Risk Assessment conference calls provided by Central Office -WVPP. Responsible for all VISN and Central office requests for information about disruptive behavior training or any data about disruptive behavior incidents. Interface with MTVAHCS police, Office of Inspector general (OIG) and coordinate care programs to manage patients with disruptive behavior. Work closely with the Workplace Violence Prevention Program (WVPP) manager to ensure all local and national policies and directives are being met. Responsible for the education, training, implementation of local and national policies pertaining to disruptive behavior. Provide expert consultation with MTVAHCS treatment providers regarding management of disruptive patients. Responsible for the implementation, education, and update of VHA policy 2012-026 (Sexual Assaults and other defined public safety incidents in VHA facilities). Attend training within 30 days of hire. Coordinate with WVPP Manager and/or ACOS of Mental Health to assess, triage, and manage employee-generated disruptive behavior immediately. Be available to interview at the request of WVPP Manager as needed. Disruptive Behavior Program Coordinator collaborates with legal representatives, Department of Veterans Affairs Office of the Inspector General, court officials including Assistant US Attorney, police (VA and community) and community providers. Conducts ongoing program evaluation and data-driven quality improvement projects that monitor the effectiveness of DBC. Initiates and maintains liaisons with other mental health care programs in order to effectively coordinate services. Responds to all incoming referral/consults to the DBC. Assesses appropriateness of referrals/consults with referring parties and other clinics as indicated. Work with WVPP Manager to maintain and review policies and procedures related to joint commission and CARF accreditation. The DBC Program Coordinator is responsible for furthering the goals of equal employment opportunities (EEO). Qualifications

Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. English Language Proficiency. In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English. Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. OR The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6) OR In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of a current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement for graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia. Preferred Experience: May be required to telework part time due to space constraints. Must be able to travel. Must have experience in threat assessment. Must be able to work with external and internal partners. I.e. VA Police, Office of Inspector general (OIG). Must be able to educate staff on policies and procedures. Must be able to assist with writing policy and procedures. Must have computer knowledge and able to learn new systems. Must be able to work independently. Grade Determinations: The following criteria must be met in determining the grade assignment of candidates, and if appropriate, the level within a grade: Nurse I Level I - An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, with no additional nursing practice/experience required. Nurse I Level II - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 1 year of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelor's degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience; OR a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) with no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse I Level III - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a BSN with approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse II - A BSN with approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing or related field with a BSN and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience required. Nurse III - Master's degree in nursing or related field with BSN and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience. Note regarding MSN degrees: If your MSN was obtained via a Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration, a BSN is not required. Physical Requirements: The work is primarily sedentary. Some work may require movement between offices, hospital, warehouses, and similar areas for meetings and to conduct work. Work may also require walking/standing, in conjunctions with travel to and attendance at meetings and/or conferences away from the work site. Incumbent may carry and lift light items weighing less than 15 pounds. The incumbent must possess a current Driver's License and drive a government vehicle in carrying out professional duties when deemed necessary.
