The Workplace Violence Prevention Program (WVPP) Director manages the administrative and clinical aspects of the Workplace Violence Prevention Program (WVPP) at MTVAHCS and which Disruptive Behavior Program Coordinator reports. The incumbent has responsibility for coordinating interdisciplinary staffing as Program Coordinator of DBC to include education and management.
Duties
Duties and skills needed to be successful in this position include, but are not limited to:
Responsible for leading a team of Administrative and Clinical Executives such as Chief of Staff or Designee, Chief of Police or Designee, Regional Council (Ad-Hoc) Patient Safety, ACOS of Mental Health or Designee, to assess, triage and manage patient-generated disruptive behavior. Responsible of overseeing the day to day business of the committee.
Work with Administrative support assistant to produce agenda and minutes with follow-up to all decisions of business items at the committee meetings. Average of two meetings per month with AD-HOC meetings as needed.
In conjunction with the ACOS of Mental Health Services and WVPP Director, responsible for the implementation, education, training and updates for policy MCM 11.22.142 Workplace Violence Prevention, to include Disruptive Behavior.
Coordinate quality improvement projects around disruptive behavior.
Responsible for the management of computer-based flagging systems (DBRS) for identifying potentially violent or dangerous Veteran patients, including review every 2 years maximum and maintaining a record of all patient flag reviews. The incumbent will evaluate new requests for flags regarding dangerous warning of patients.
Incumbent will attend DBC new chair intensive training within 90 days of hire or earliest scheduled training offered by Central office.
Incumbent will attend bi-annual DBC all chair conference conducted by Central office.
Participate in monthly DBC Community of Practice and Violence Risk Assessment conference calls provided by Central Office -WVPP.
Responsible for all VISN and Central office requests for information about disruptive behavior training or any data about disruptive behavior incidents. Interface with MTVAHCS police, Office of Inspector general (OIG) and coordinate care programs to manage patients with disruptive behavior.
Work closely with the Workplace Violence Prevention Program (WVPP) Director to ensure all local and national policies and directives are being met. Responsible for the education, training, implementation of local and national policies pertaining to disruptive behavior.
Provide expert consultation with MTVAHCS treatment providers regarding management of disruptive patients.
Responsible for the implementation, education, and update of VHA policy 2012-026
(Sexual Assaults and other defined public safety incidents in VHA facilities)
Member of, Employee Threat Assessment Team (ETAT) - Attend training within 30 days of hire.
Coordinate with WVPP Director and/or ACOS of Mental Health to assess, triage, and manage employee- generated disruptive behavior immediately.
Support the PMDB Coordinator in education of PMDB based on WBRA results.
Obtain and maintain PMDB Certified Trainer status.
Support and instruct once a month or more as needed by the PMDB Coordinator for facility training, New Employee Orientation (NEO) and facility refresher courses (Assessments)
The Disruptive Behavior Program Coordinator collaborates with legal representatives, Department of Veterans Affairs Office of the Inspector General, court officials including Assistant US Attorney, police (VA and community) and community providers.
Conducts ongoing program evaluation and data-driven quality improvement projects that monitor the effectiveness of DBC.
Initiates and maintains liaisons with other mental health care programs in order to effectively coordinate services.
Responds to all incoming referral/consults to the DBC. Assesses appropriateness of referrals/consults with referring parties and other clinics as indicated.
Work with WVPP Director to maintain and review policies and procedures related to joint commission and CARF accreditation.
Work with the WVPP Director to interpret and write policies, procedures, and program guidelines. Provide administrative input into the development and planning of the service.
Demonstrates professionalism, strong organizational skills, effective communication skills, and effective interpersonal skills when providing training. Provides consultation and education to mental and medical health staff on the rationale, utility, and steps associated with DBC.
Demonstrates a close partnership by providing administrative and clinical direction to the DBC in collaboration with the Service Line supervisors, mental health leadership, and/or providers.
Establishes and maintains positive working relationships with employees, volunteers, consumers and stakeholders within the VA and outside community agencies.

Qualifications
Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.
Basic Requirements:
United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
Experience and Education. One year of experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level. Experience must demonstrate possession of advanced practice skills and judgment, demonstrating progressively more professional competency. Candidate may have certification or other post-master's degree training from a nationally recognized professional organization or university that includes a defined curriculum/course of study and internship, or equivalent supervised professional experience.
Licensure. Individuals assigned as social worker program coordinator must be licensed or certified at the advanced practice level, and must be able to provide supervision for licensure.
In addition to the experience above, the candidate must demonstrate all of the following KSAs:
Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities.
Knowledge of program coordination and administration which includes consultation, negotiation, and monitoring.
Knowledge and ability to write policies, procedures, and/or practice guidelines for the program.
Ability to supervise multidisciplinary staff assigned to the program.
Skill in organizing work, setting priorities, meeting multiple deadlines, and evaluating assigned program area(s).
Ability to provide training, orientation, and guidance within clinical practice.
Preferred Experience: May be required to telework part time due to space constraints. Must be able to travel. Must have experience in threat assessment. Must be able to work with external and internal partners. I.e. VA Police, Office of Inspector general (OIG). Must be able to educate staff on policies and procedures. Must be able to assist with writing policy and procedures. Must have computer knowledge and able to learn new systems. Must be able to work independently.

Physical Requirements: The work is primarily sedentary. Some work may require movement between offices, hospital, warehouses, and similar areas for meetings and to conduct work. Work may also require walking/standing, in conjunctions with travel to and attendance at meetings and/or conferences away from the work site. Incumbent may carry and lift light items weighing less than 15 pounds. The incumbent must possess a current Driver's License and drive a government vehicle in carrying out professional duties when deemed necessary.
