Duties
The Physician Assistant will function as a Hospitalist on the APP Inpatient Service. The APP Service is responsible for admissions, discharges, and daily management of inpatient Veterans. They will work collaboratively with Surgery, Medicine, Consult Specialty service lines, Nursing, Rehabilitation, Pharmacy, and Social work. They will help to manage complex discharges which might include care coordination with outside facilities and agencies. In addition, the PA will support quality improvement innovation and serve the Veteran population consistent with ICARE values. The Hospitalist Physician Assistant works on the APP Service. The role may include the following:
Complete and document timely Admission H&Ps and orders
Interpret and order appropriate diagnostic tests.
Work with the inter-professional care team and anticipate needs for discharge.
Complete accurate and timely discharge summaries, provide verbal handoffs when indicated.
Provide follow-up and coordination of care for complex cases including communication with other VA service line clinicians and community providers/support staff.
Discuss and document Goals of Care
Participate in quality improvement projects
Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.
Physician Assistant Basic Requirements
Master's degree in any discipline or a bachelor's degree in any discipline with one year of experience as a Physician Assistant ~AND~
Successfully passed the PA National Certifying Exam (PANCE) (or are you in the process to taking the exam) ~AND~
Currently hold, or will hold, a full and unrestricted license to practice in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or in the District of Columbia.
GRADE REQUIREMENTS
Grade 2-Intermediate grade level and has had progressively increasing responsibility and experiences.
Two years of successful practice as a PA OR Successful completion of a PA post-graduate residency program sponsored by VHA Office of Academic Affiliations or other postgraduate residency programs accredited by VA, ARC-PA, U.S. Armed Forces, or another accrediting agency. OR A doctoral degree in a health-related field from an accredited college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
Grade 3-Full Performance Level and lead and organize patient care independently, practice within multi-disciplinary teams, and coordinate all aspects of patient care across the health care system.
Three years of successful practice as a PA OR successful completion of a PA post-graduate residency program sponsored by VHA Office of Academic Affiliations or other postgraduate residency programs accredited by VA, ARC-PA, U.S. Armed Forces, or another accrediting agency and on year of OR A doctoral degree in a health-related field from an accredited college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and on year of professional practice as a PA.

The full performance level of this vacancy is 3. The actual grade at which an applicant may be selected for this vacancy is in the range of 2 to 3.
Physical Requirements: Walking, bending, stooping, and some lifting in the direct care of patients. There may also be extended periods of sitting.
