You will serve as a INDUSTRIAL HYGIENE TECHNICIAN in the Bureau Medicine Surgery Military Treatment Facility (BUMED MTF) of NMRTC BREMERTON WA. This announcement uses the Expansion of Direct Hire Authority for Certain Personnel of the Department of Defense to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to certain positions in the competitive service. GS-07 $51,934-$67,514 GS-09 $63,526-$82,580

Duties

You will plan, coordinate, and conduct complete sampling evaluations of work operations involving potentially hazardous environmental conditions and provides written documentation of work. You will record all measurements/sampling data for establishing a historical record of occupational exposure under the direction of the cognizant Industrial Hygienist. You will research sampling methods when dealing with new material or processes. You will research and recommend equipment to the Head, IHPO for procurement. You will prepare instructional outlines and provides technical instruction to IH professionals, technicians and workplace monitors on the use of new and technically advanced IH equipment.

Qualifications

FOR THE GS-09: In order to qualify for the INDUSTRIAL HYGIENE TECHNICIAN, GS-0640-09 position, your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the (GS-08) grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled and has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities, to perform successfully the duties of the position. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: - Planning, coordinating and conducting industrial hygiene sampling surveys to collect exposure monitoring data to assess work practices and environmental conditions; - Providing technical consultation and equipment training to industrial hygiene personnel; - Following up on abatement action, researching sampling strategies and providing training to personnel. - Supports the Industrial Hygienist with the completion of sampling and work operations; - Writing technical briefs, procedures, sampling surveys and instructional outlines; AND - Applying Industrial Hygiene equipment practices, equipment operation and principles of design, diagnostic and repair techniques and technical writing skills required for maintaining equipment and calibration repair procedures. FOR THE GS-07: In order to qualify for the INDUSTRIAL HYGIENE TECHNICIAN, GS-0640-07 position, your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the (GS-06) grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled and has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities, to perform successfully the duties of the position. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: - Completing workplace monitoring in support of Exposure Monitoring Plans for multiple industrial commands/organizations across geographically dispersed areas. - Conducting complete workplace monitoring evaluations using various Industrial Hygiene (IH) monitoring equipment of work operations involving potentially hazardous occupational physical and chemical stressors. - Gathering data on-site for the recognized chemical and physical hazards of the work operations monitored. - Documenting workplace conditions and any apparent violations of occupational safety and health standards during the monitoring of work operations. - Utilizing electronic data warehouse applications such as the Defense Occupational and Environmental Health Readiness System Industrial Hygiene (DOEHRS-IH) for entering occupational exposure monitoring data. COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be combined to meet the total qualification requirements.
