This position is located in Bent's Old Fort National Historic Site, at the Amache National Historic Site Open to the first 50 applicants or until 09/07/2023 whichever comes first. All applications submitted by 11:59 (EST) on the closing day will receive consideration.

Duties

Provide visitor services and contribute to interpretation and preservation of Amache site and its stories. Provide site orientation, information, and explanation to visitors of all ages and backgrounds about Amache's historic context, interpretive themes, cultural and natural resources, management, and visitor opportunities. Communicate professionally and effectively-verbally and in writing-with the public, co-workers, and others when dealing with complex, controversial, and emotional topics and issues. Use previously prepared research and documentation to lead guided walks, present talks, and answer questions on 20th century American History, including social history, immigration, politics, water and agricultural issues, with emphasis on the World War II era and Japanese American history. Initiate informal interpretive contacts throughout the site. Support special events and exhibits. Track, stock and distribute printed material. Provide information via email, telephone, mail, and social media. Assist in a variety of other duties related to site programs and projects. Use Windows-based computers and programs (word processing, e-mail, databases, etc.,) photocopiers, transcribers. Area Information: Amache National Historic Site is located within the high plains of southeastern Colorado at an elevation is 3,484 feet above sea level. Summers are hot and dry with many days exceeding 100 degrees. Nighttime temperatures are comfortable. Winter temperatures are mild with averages around 40 degrees. Precipitation averages 16 inches per year, including an average of 29 inches of snowfall. Snow typically melts within days. Amache NHS is located within the town of Granada, Colorado, with a population of 445. Cost of living is low, with affordable housing for both sale and rent. No park housing is available. The community of Granada offers schools (grades K-12).Lamar, CO is 17 miles south of the park and has a population of 7,656. Lamar receives intercity passenger rail from Chicago and Los Angeles, has a community college, and all the amenities such as a theater, museum, shopping, and a hospital. Lamar also has a variety of restaurants and several shopping options. Recreational opportunities include nature trails, the nearby Comanche National Grassland, John Martin Reservoir State Park, and a local golf course. Duties will be developmental in nature when filled below the full performance level.

Qualifications

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-09/07/2023-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. For current Federal employees, if hours worked per week are not included on your resume, you must submit a non-award SF-50 for each federal position listed as part of your application to be used to validate your work schedule and determine the amount of qualifying experience that you will be granted. An award SF-50 will not be acceptable documentation for which to consider your amount of qualifying experience. For all other applicants who are not current federal employees, your resume must state either "full-time" (or "40 hours a week") or "part-time" with the number of hours worked per week to ensure proper crediting of specialized experience. Failure to adequately provide information needed to determine number of hours worked in each position may result in that time not being credited when evaluating qualifying experience. For periods of time that reflect military service, the DD-214 or Statement of Service is sufficient to meet the full and/or part-time hours requirement as the service dates will be reflected. To qualify for this position at the GS-07 grade level, you must possess the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-05 grade level (in a two-grade interval position) in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). Experience may have been in technical, administrative, or scientific work, fish and wildlife management, recreation management, or other park-related work. You must include hours worked per week in your resume. -OR- EDUCATION: Successful completion of one year of graduate level study in directly related fields such as natural resource management, natural sciences, earth sciences, history, archeology, anthropology, park and recreation management, law enforcement/police science, social sciences, museum sciences, business administration, public administration, behavioral sciences, sociology, emergency management, or other closely related subjects pertinent to the management and protection of natural and cultural resources. You must include transcripts with your job application if you are qualifying based on education. -OR- Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. An equivalent combination of education and experience. For example, if you have 6 months of the specialized experience described in A above (50% of the experience requirement), and at least 1 semester of college graduate study in a directly related field from an accredited institution (50% of the qualifying education requirement), then you would meet 100% of the qualification's requirement. You must include transcripts. To qualify for this position at the GS-09 grade level, you must possess the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: possess at least one full year (52 weeks) of Specialized Experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-7 grade level (in a two-grade interval position) in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). Specialized Experience is defined as experience that demonstrated the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform successfully the duties of the position to be filled. Experience may have been in technical, administrative, or scientific work, fish and wildlife management, recreation management, or other park-related work. Your resume must include hours per week worked.. You must include hours worked per week in your resume. -OR- EDUCATION: Successful completion of two full academic years of progressively higher level graduate education, or a master's or equivalent graduate degree in one of the following fields: natural resource management, natural sciences, marine biology/sciences, earth sciences, history, archeology, anthropology, park and recreation management, law enforcement/police science, social sciences, wetlands ecology, or other closely related subjects pertinent to the management and protection of natural and cultural resources. (Two years of graduate education is 36 semester hours or 54 quarter hours). You must include transcripts with your job application if you are qualifying based on education. -OR- Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. An equivalent combination of education and experience. For example, if you have 6 months of the specialized experience described in A above (50% of the experience requirement), and at least 1 semester of college graduate study in a directly related field from an accredited institution (50% of the qualifying education requirement), then you would meet 100% of the qualification's requirement. You must include transcripts.
