This position is located at the Cheyenne VA Healthcare System (CVAHCS) in the Facilities Management Service and under the general supervision the Electrician Supervisor. The primary purpose of the Electrician position is the maintenance, repair and management of extensive electrical systems,equipment and electrical line-operated devices located throughout the Medical Center in order to provide them to the users in first-class operating condition.
Duties
The Electrician works with new and existing electrical lines, circuits, systems, fixtures, controls, and equipment. Major duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
Serves as journeyman electrician.
Installs, maintains, modifies, repairs electric wiring systems, related switches, distribution panels and outlet boxes, as well as a wide variety of electrical fixtures, tools, and appliances.
Follows maintenance schedules and work orders, performs maintenance services, diagnoses system or equipment malfunction and repairs as necessary. Inspects, maintains, clean, repairs, tests and adjusts electrical buzzer and bell circuits, light sockets, lighting fixtures, fans, switches, heating appliances, grinder, and shop equipment.
Repairs or replaces parts as required. Splices, tapes connections, and makes adjustments to electrical equipment.
Performs preventive maintenance inspections of transformers.
Performs shop repair work, emergency troubleshooting on power failures, motor breakdowns, etc.
Responds to emergencies promptly, makes necessary spot decisions and repairs as needed.
Communicates on a daily basis with Electric Shop Supervisor and staff concerning repairs to be made.
Uses the proper equipment to do repair and alteration work and operates all tools following accepted procedures, to maintain personal safety and safety of others at all times.
Performs work assignments and jobs in a thorough, neat and complete manner and in compliance with the National Electrical Code, as well as federal, state and local codes and regulations applicable trade standards.
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday; 7:00am - 3:30pm

Physical Requirements: In the performance of duties and assignments, incumbent must bend, kneel, climb and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions for extended periods of time. Incumbent frequently lifts, carries and sets up heavy parts and equipment. Incumbent could be subject to noise, odors and fumes. Makes repairs and installations from ladders, scaffolds and platforms often in hard to reach, confined spaces requiring frequent standing, stooping, crouching, crawling, climbing, balancing, stretching, etc. Frequent lifting/carrying of tools, equipment, materials weighing up to 50 lbs. Occasional lifting/carrying of items weighing over 50 lbs.
Is subject to burns, cuts, bruises, falls and exposure to a variety of weather conditions when working outside. Must be aware of safety hazards and take proper action to avoid them. Must use protective clothing and safety equipment when required and on occasions, work in and around patients areas with various health conditions and hazard exposures.
Work is performed inside and outside and is occasionally dirty and greasy with occasional exposed to the possibility of electrical shock and burns.

Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume.
