The Accounting Technician performs work in direct support of an administrative area such as human resources, budget, procurement, purchasing, management analysis, or operating program analysis. Provides clerical, assistant, or technician level support from within and Administrate Office of from within a functional component such as the Human Resources Office, the Budget Office, the Purchasing Office, or a comparable setting.
Duties
The Accounting Technician will perform clerical, assistant, or technician level work in support of a budget, accounting, auditing, payroll, fiscal, and/or financial management function. Performs budget administration support, financial systems support, payroll, cash process, voucher examination, or accounting technician work.
The Accounting Technician will examine, verify, and maintain financial accounts and accounting data and classifies accounting transactions including the verification of the accuracy and completeness of the accounting data. Determine the general ledger accounts, journals, and subsidiary accounts affected, and the debit and credit entries to be made. Summarize transactions and prepares control documents or other posting documents reflecting the entries to be made. Incumbent has technical responsibility for the maintenance, auditing, and reconciliation of the general and subsidiary ledger accounts, for the preparation of accurate and timely reports, and for the control of funds. Determine the nature of errors and makes adjustments in the correct appropriation to a variety of interrelated accounts. Research, interpret, and verify which appropriation and general ledger accounts a document and subsequent accounting transaction will affect; establishes routines for input of these transactions. Prepare reconciliations of the general ledger to subsidiary accounts, accruals, adjusting journal entries, accounting reports and special reports. Reconcile accounting systems output with input for accuracy. Maintains control of receipts and disbursements. Maintain control of funds obligated and funds expended. Ensure the timely preparation of all reports for Dept of Treasury, agency HQ, and local management. Analyze general ledger accountings to ensure accurate reports. Analyze documents for accuracy and authorization. Document financial transaction to assure a proper audit trail. Assigns transactions that will have the proper accounting effect. Review pending items and ensures that follow up action is taken on all items pending for excessive periods of time.
Work Schedule: Monday to Friday 8:00am to 4:30pm

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 08/31/2023.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-07 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-06. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
You may qualify based on your experience as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-06 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: broad knowledge of a body of accounting, budget, or other financial management regulations, practices, procedures and policies related to the specific financial management functions. This includes: (1) knowledge of a wide variety of interrelated steps, conditions, and procedures or processes required to assemble, review, and maintain complex accounting, budget or other fiscal transactions; (2) knowledge of various accounting, budget, or other financial regulations, laws, and requirements to ensure compliance and recommend action; (3) knowledge of a variety of accounting and budget functional areas and their relationships to other functions to research or investigate problems or errors that require reconciling and reconstructing incomplete information, conducting extensive and exhaustive searches for required information, or performing actions of similar complexity; (4) knowledge of automated accounting and budget systems to reconcile errors that requires an understanding of nonstandard procedures or to provide assistance in the development of automated procedures for clerical operations; and or (5) knowledge of extensive and diverse accounting, budget o other financial regulations, operations, and procedures governing a wide variety of types of related transactions to resolve nonstandard transactions, complaints, discrepancies, provide advice, or perform other work that requires authoritative procedural knowledge..

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements: The work is sedentary. Some work may require movement between offices, hospitals, warehouses, and similar areas for meetings and to conduct work. Work may also require walking/standing, in conjunctions with travel to and attendance at meetings and/or conferences away from the work site. Incumbent may carry and lift light items weighing less than 15 pounds.
