You will serve as a Sheet Metal Worker (Aircraft) in the MRO Production Department of FLTREADCEN EAST. This announcement uses the Certain Personnel of the DoD direct hire authority to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

Duties

You will use measuring instruments such as steel rules, drill gauges, compasses, and other precision-measuring devices. You will manufacture and install patches, splices, reinforcements and the use of replacement parts to repair damaged components. You will assemble metal components designed for aircraft use such as solids rivets, blind rivets, bolts, screws, and other hardware identified in applicable references. You will works with plastics and various metals such as aluminum, titanium, steel, stainless steel, and alloys in the forms of sheet metal, extrusions, tubing, honeycomb, castings, etc.

  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.

  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. The Screen-out Element for this position is: I have the ability to perform common tasks including: 1) Checking and realigning components using available jigs and fixtures after replacing structural parts or reinstalling fittings; 2) Utilizing hand power tools and metal working tools to repair, manufacture, and/or modify aircraft or aircraft engine assemblies or parts; and 3) Utilizing precision measuring instruments such as steel rules, drill gauges and compasses. I work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed.
