As Chief of Maintenance and Flight Operations Directorate's Maintenance Division you will be responsible for the guaranteed flight readiness of highly complex, often highly modified flight research vehicles in accordance with approved research project plans and schedules. You will lead a team of highly skilled technicians and FAA Airframe & Powerplant mechanics in performing routine, periodic, isochronal, maintenance and modification on a functionally diverse fleet of flight research vehicles.
Duties
Guarantee the flight readiness of all assigned flight research vehicles in accordance with approved research project plans and schedules.
Lead, coordinate, plan, and direct all professional, technical, and administrative functions of for the Flight Operations Directorate's Maintenance Division.
Provide technical guidance to a staff of over 100 personnel through subordinate supervisors and group leads.
Oversee flight operations maintenance activities and ensure adherence to all appropriate safety regulations and best practices.
Formulate long range plans for periodic and isochronal maintenance periods of the Armstrong Support Aircraft Fleet.
Oversee the assignment of maintenance personnel to Flight Operations projects.
Requirements
- Position subject to pre-employment background security investigation.

- If the individual selected is currently at the GS-15 grade level, they will be detailed at their current grade and step. If the individual is a current GS-14 they will be temporarily promoted to the GS-15 level.
- A one-year supervisory probationary period may be required.
Qualifications
Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.
To qualify for GS-15, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-14 level:
Developing metrics to measure the health of and to improve the performance of an aircraft maintenance division;
Managing stock replenishment levels and approving funding for aircraft parts acquisition;
Establishing operational and budgetary priorities for an aircraft fleet with at least five different Mission Data Series of aircraft.
