About the Position: You will serve as Range Inspector with responsibility for safe and coordinated use of the Fort Carson and Pinon Canyon Maneuver Site Range and Training Area Complex. Using Daily Range Schedule, review, monitor and inspect access to ranges, impact areas, impact area gates, facilities and maneuver land, and live fire through patrol and onsite inspection of ranges, firing points, and units and activities on the range/training area complex in Fort Carson, Colorado.
Duties
Determine restrictions on weapons, ammunition, and personnel movement on the range or training area to minimize risk.
Conduct range inspections to assist with preparation of live fire and non-firing training.
Provide data on safety violations, training hazards, and usage for follow-up correspondence.
Review range production reports to ascertain backlogs and take corrective action.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid State of Colorado driver's license.
- Must obtain and maintain a U.S. Government motor vehicle operator's identification card (OF 346) within 30 days after hire.
- Must obtain and maintain equipment operator's qualification record (DA 348) within 30 days after hire.
- Incumbent is subject to an irregular tour of duty to cover 24 hour-a-day (must be able to work on rotating shifts), 7 days per week operation, to include holidays. Overtime may be required.
- Must successfully complete Accident-Avoidance training; receive and maintain card with issue/renewal dates within 30 days after hire.
- Must complete initial U.S. Government Vehicle training to include use of emergency lights, 4x4 operation, situational vehicle operations provided by U.S. Army within 30 days after hire and complete semi-annual vehicle refresher training.
- Must pass a pre-appointment physical. Position required heavy lifting (up to 45 lbs); must have normal depth perception and color vision.
- Up to 5% business travel may be required.
- This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to applicant testing and random drug testing. Tentatively selected applicants will be required to sign DA Form 5019 requiring participation in random drug urinalysis testing.

Specialized Experience: One year of demonstrated experience which includes 1 ;) providing guidance on federal regulations, policy, and procedures for live fire training and safety 2;) monitoring access to training areas and facilities to ensure control over the use of live fire, and 3;) conducting inspections of live fire training areas to ensure compliance with environmental and safety regulations. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-6).
Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-06).
