You will serve as a SUPERVISORY SAFETY AND OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH SPECIALIST in the SAFETY AND OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH OFFICE of NAVAL AIR STATION WHIDBEY ISLAND.
Duties
You will manage investigations for injuries and mishap reports to compile data for reporting purposes.
You will brief command personnel on the safety program to cultivate a safety culture where everyone takes responsibility for their safety and safety of others.
You will conduct follow up inspections to determine that all unsafe conditions have been corrected.
You will prepare written follow up reports with recommendations to correct unsafe acts or conditions.
You will prepare and provide counseling sessions to assist employees in correcting behaviors or meeting work expectations.
You will assign work to junior level employees based on priorities, difficulty of assignments, and the capabilities of employees to meet command deadlines.
Requirements

- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance while employed in the subject position. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
- Supervisors in the executive branch have a heightened personal responsibility for advancing government ethics. You will be required to review the 14 General Principles of Ethical Conduct at 5 CFR 2635.101.
Qualifications
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
1) Devising innovative procedures to minimize potential for injury or property damage resulting from work related activities; 2) Identifying trends that provide an effective tool in defining accident/injury control measures; 3) Performing risk assessments of hazardous processes and determining severity; 4) Preparing technical reports from safety surveys by compiling and analyzing survey data, identifying trends or pertinent safety issues from the data, and composing a written narrative offering recommendations for management to consider. PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The performance of assigned duties requires frequent inspections and surveys of hangars, runways, warehouses, piers, vehicles and industrial shops necessitating prolonged periods of walking, standing, reaching, and bending.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The safety and occupational health manager is often exposed to operating industrial machinery and equipment, toxic chemicals, fumes, and material handling activities.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
