This position is located in the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Office of Administration (FS), Fleet, Property, and Office Services Section (FSO), Office Services Unit (FSOS), Quick Copy Center. This position(s) primary purpose is responsible for a full range of printing services for DEA for a variety of products to include correspondence, newsletters, brochures, pamphlets, and reports.

As a Printing Specialist, typical work assignments may include: Consulting with customers on recurring print products and advising them on proper regulations, quality of materials, sizes, quantities, and the look and presentation of job requests. Coordinating with project managers, originating officials and staff concerning the scheduling of work to meet specific targets and critical deadlines. Operating and troubleshooting print shop equipment such as copiers, print finishing machines, scanners, collators, guillotine cutters, folders, drilling, binding and stitching machines. Performing administrative support or policy functions directly related to publishing and printing program management or operations. Planning, estimating, and scheduling printing on a full-time basis for a variety of publications.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet the Basic Requirement AND Specialized Experience requirements as noted below. Qualification claims will be subject to verification. Basic Requirement: Undergraduate and Graduate Education: Major study -- journalism, business administration, English composition, commerce, accounting, printing or printing engineering, graphic or commercial art, industrial engineering, or economics; OR Specialized Experience: Examples of qualifying specialized experience include: Determining specifications for the printing of manuscript, i.e., selection of typography, layout, composition, format, paper stock, and other printer's instructions. Negotiating or administering contracts for procurement of manuscript and illustrations, printing, binding and allied services, or printing stocks (paper, inks, etc.). Managing a printing plant that produces printing either for the government or private industry customers. Performing production control work in a large printing plant. Serving as a sales representative for a wide variety of printing equipment. Analyzing the price and cost of preparation and production of printing. Planning, estimating, and scheduling printing on a full-time basis for a variety of publications. Performing substantive administrative support or policy functions directly related to publishing and printing program management or operations. You must submit transcripts as proof of education or of certification to be considered for this position. Specialized Experience: You must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying specialized experience. Specialized experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. To qualify for the GS-07 position: One (1) year equivalent to at least GS-05: 1) Applying principles, concepts, and methods of printing processes and commonly used equipment; 2) Determining print specifications and initiating print orders; 3) Auditing bills and reviewing printing costs; OR One (1) full year of graduate level education; OR Successful completion of all the requirements for a bachelor's degree with Superior Academic Achievement (SAA). In order to be creditable under this provision, SAA must have been gained in a curriculum that is qualifying for the position and is based on: Class Standing: Applicants must be in the upper third of the graduating class, based on completed courses; Grade Point Average: applicants must have a grade point average of: 3.0 or higher: Based on 4 years of education or as computed based on courses completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum; OR; 3.5 or higher: Based on the average of the required courses completed in the major field or the required courses in the major field completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum; OR; Election to membership in a national scholastic honor society: Applicants can be considered eligible based on membership in one of the national scholastic honor societies recognized by the Association of College Honor Societies. To qualify for the GS-09 position: One (1) year equivalent to at least GS-07: 1) Applying principles, concepts, and methods of printing processes and commonly used equipment; 2) Reviewing and accepting or rejecting printing requests, printing schedules, and control works; 3) Organizing and maintaining files to charge costs back to customers and outside vendors; OR Completed two full years of progressively higher level graduate education, or Master's or equivalent graduate degree such as LL.B. or J.D. OR; I have the specialized experience as described in A, but less than one year; and I have at least one year of graduate education as described in B, but less than the required two years. I have computed the percentage of the requirements that I meet, and the total is at least 100% (To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then, divide your semester hours of graduate education beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
