THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This National Guard position is for a Artillery Repairer (Title 32) (Permanent), Position Description Number D1224000 and is part of the VA MATES, National Guard.

Duties

As an Artillery Repairer (Title 32), WG-6605-10, you will perform the below duties: (1) Performs maintenance on the electrical system of the turrets. Repairs the stabilization control systems, circuit breakers, distribution boxes, cables, and wiring system, points and all other electrical components in the turret. Replaces Line Replaceable Units (LRUs) (2) Tests and repairs electrical test sets that are used to test the electrical systems of the tank turret. Follows schematic diagrams and relays to determine if there is malfunction in the test equipment. (3) Repairs the hydraulic system, which provides the pressure to elevate and traverse the gun and rotate the turret. Repairs hydraulic valves which control the motion to ensure safety, these are controlled by electrical solenoids. Repairs the hydraulic motors, the elevating systems, the recoil systems and all other hydraulic parts and components in the turret. (4) Repairs all mechanical parts involved in turret traversing, such as the traversing gearbox including the clutch assembly, and turret races including cupola bearings. Repairs the gears and bearings in the gearbox. Repairs all small gear drive components including those required to raise and lower the gun. (5) Services the gun by exercising the recoil system to check for leaks in the seals. Borescopes the gun tube to check for wear. Makes recoil adapter readings to determine that the adapter and collar are serviceable. (6) May also work on ITVs, howitzers, and other less complex equipment. (7) Performs other duties as assigned.

  • This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement.
  • Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.

  • Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the National Guard in the military grade listed in this announcement.

WHO CAN APPLY: GROUP I - All qualified Male/Female Enlisted Personnel (E1/PVT - E7/SFC) currently employed (permanent) in the Virginia Army National Guard Military Technician Program. GROUP II - All qualified Virginia Army National Guard Male/Female Enlisted Personnel (E1/PVT - E7/SFC) regardless of employment status (Traditional, Military Technician or AGR). To be considered as a Group II applicant, proof of appointment/enlistment in the Virginia National Guard must be attached if the appointment/enlistment occurred wthin 60 days prior to, or during, the advertisement period. Military Grades: Enlisted Member (E1/PVT - E7/SFC) GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Applicant must have experience or training performing maintenance, repair, and inspections on the electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical components on armored vehicle turrets. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicant musthave at least 18 months of specialized experience, equivalent to at least the WG-09 level, or equivalent pay band in other pay systems in the Federal government. This experience may also have been obtained in the private sector but must demonstrate that it is comparable to the WG grade indicated. This experience must include activities such as: Experience performing maintenance on the electrical system of the turrets.
