The primary purpose of this position is: To serve as a work leader, working directly with journeymen and non-journeyman performing all tasks assigned to a painter. It also requires the performance of the full tasks of a journeyman Painter.
Duties
Provides guidance and passes on to others instructions received from supervisor and gets work started.
Prepares various surfaces of interior and exterior components of sheet metal and composite aircraft and engine parts mechanically and chemically removing old paint.
Mixes, tints, and blends various types of coating materials.
Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations, maintains safe clean environment.
Uses and maintains tools.

Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C.
QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the
WG-4100 Painting And Paperhanging Family.. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

Working Conditions:
The work is done inside and outside, with dirt, spray, and fumes usually present. The painter is sometimes required to prepare, treat, and finish surfaces outside in all types of weather. Protective equipment and clothing such as safety shoes, safety glasses or sun glasses, gloves, rain gear, hard hats, coveralls, respirators and other protective gear are required, which are sometimes heavy and uncomfortable. Frequent exposure to the possibility of cuts and bruises; may occasionally be exposed to the possibility of broken bones.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
