This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. The incumbent serves as the Suicide Prevention Program Manager for the MH & BH Service at VACHCS responsible to assist with the direct supervision of all professional behavioral health staff assigned to the program. The incumbent has direct administrative responsibilities over the day-to-day operation of this program in alignment with the guidelines set forth in the Uniform MH Handbook of the program. The Suicide Prevention Program Manager assists the ACOS for MH & BH Service in the development and implementation of the program, its policies, and procedures; in the oversight of administrative and programmatic resources; and in monitoring of outcomes using a data-driven quality assurance process of a program that delivers specialized, complex, highly professional services that are important components of the Medical Center and significantly affect the health care provided to veterans. Duties include leading the Suicide Prevention Program in implementing VACO Suicide Prevention mandates and initiatives at the VACHS
Primary duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Provides direct supervision of the Suicide Prevention Team.
Manages daily operations of the program with numerous tasks and deadlines.
Assists in the design, development, and implementation of Suicide Prevention Program activities within the MH&BS service, to include program development such as REACH VET, Suicide Risk ID benchmark and SPED , SPRITE etc.
Assists in the execution of on-going program evaluation and data-driven quality improvement projects.
Complies with CPRS documentation procedures, including timeliness standards for documentation and proper patient check-out procedures (e.g. entering diagnostic and procedure codes)
Attends regular Mental Health and Behavioral Sciences Service and Psychiatry Profession Staff meetings as possible, Mandatory Medical Staff meetings, and complies with Psychiatry Peer Review procedures.
Serves on Medical Center or Healthcare System, VISN, and/or National VA committees or task forces.
Represents the Medical Center at professional/program community group/events and committees.
Responsible for Training clinical and non-clinical staff in the Medical Center, Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs).
Provides community outreach and education regarding the VAMC, Suicide Prevention Program, and opportunities to reduce the rate of suicide to external stakeholders.
Provides a full range of psycho-diagnostic services including assessment and using the most appropriate psychotherapeutic techniques in providing quality care.
Performs psychiatric consultations, screenings, and evaluations.
Provides a full range of therapeutic interventions including individual and group psychotherapy, psychoeducation, treatment planning, participation in therapeutic community.
Incumbent is responsible for scheduling appointments and for completing annual required scheduling training as indicated in VHA Directive 2006-055.
Incumbent must be credentialed/privileged at the VACHS
Preferred Experience, Knowledge & Training
Extensive experience in Suicide Prevention day-to-day operation, development and implementation of the program, its policies, and procedures.
Experience in community outreach and education regarding the VAMC, Suicide Prevention Program, and opportunities to reduce the rate of suicide to external stakeholders including Veteran's Service Organizations, local colleges and universities, local guard, and reserve units, etc.
Experience in implementing VACO Suicide Prevention mandates and initiatives.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm(Note: Work schedules are determined and approved by the supervisor. The incumbent may be required to work various shifts on a permanent or temporary basis based on facility/patient care needs).

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements associated with your chosen specialty. Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation.
Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.
Basic Requirements:
Citizenship: Must be a citizen of the United States.
Education: Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
Licensure & Registration: Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a state, territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
Residency Training: Must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. Successful completion of an ACGME/AOA accredited Psychiatry Residency Program or board certification in Psychiatry. (NOTE: VA physicians involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status). Approved residencies are: (1) Those approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME); OR (2) Those approved by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA); OR (3) Other residencies (non-US residency training programs followed by a minimum of five years of verified practice in the United States), which the local Medical Staff Executive Committee deems to have provided the applicant with appropriate professional training and believes has exposed the physician to an appropriate range of patient care experiences. NOTE: Residents currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited residency training programs and who would otherwise meet the basic requirements for appointment are eligible to be appointed as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs). PRPs must be fully licensed physicians (i.e., not a training license) and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee-basis. PRPs are not considered independent practitioners and will not be privileged; rather, they are to have a "scope of practice" that allows them to perform certain restricted duties under supervision. Additionally, surgery residents in gap years may also be appointed as PRPs.
Board Certification: Board certification required if the position being filled is required to: (1) supervise medical students or physician residents (including fellows); (2) have faculty status with an affiliated medical school (for example, in joint recruitments with affiliated medical schools); and/or (3) to be board certified by virtue of specific VHA policy (for example, as director of a cardiac catheterization laboratory or Director of Clinical Laboratory Medicine).NOTE: All Physicians must maintain current BLS Certification. Candidate has to be Board/Eligible in General Psychiatry.
English Language Proficiency: Must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(d).
Spanish Language Proficiency: Must be proficient in spoken and written Spanish in accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402.

Education
Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from an institution whose accreditation was in place for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are:
- Schools of medicine accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) for the year in which the degree was granted, or
- Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association for the year in which the degree was granted.
- For foreign medical graduates not covered in (1) or (2) above, facility officials must verify with the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) that the applicant has met requirements for certification, and must obtain a copy of the ECFMG certificate, if claimed by the applicant. [If the applicant does not claim an ECFMG certificate, facility officials must still confirm that the medical school meets (or met) ECFMG eligibility requirements for the year the candidate graduated.]
NOTE: The Under Secretary of Health or designee in the VHA Central Office may approve the appointment under authority of 38 U.S.C. 7405 of a physician graduate of a school of medicine not covered above if the candidate is to be assigned to a research, academic, or administrative position with no patient care responsibilities. The appointment will be made only in exceptional circumstances where the candidate's credentials clearly demonstrate high professional attainment or expertise in the specialty area.
