About the Position: Fort Drum is approximately 30 miles from Canada, with the Great Lakes to the west, the Adirondack Mountains to the east, and the St. Lawrence River and Thousand Islands in between.
Duties
Drive of various motor vehicles used to transport articles, materials and equipment throughout the Fort Drum installation, public roads both on and off the installation.
Loads and unloads materials from transport vehicle and assures vehicle is loaded within proper capacity by checking cargo papers and visual observations.
Monitors and inputs material handling equipment (MHE) weekly maintenance and monthly usage reports for the section.
Ensures passengers are manifested, carry-on baggage is screened and passengers are weighed for an organization.
Performs Joint Inspections of vehicles and equipment to include: documentation, maintenance, secondary loads and HAZMAT identification
Operates and drives industrial diesel powered forklifts (up to 16,000 lbs).
Operates K-loaders to load Strategic Air Assets for an organizartion
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
- This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
- Position requires incumbent to obtain and maintain Forklift; Loaders and baggage convayer certifications.
- Position requires incumbent to posses or obtain and maintain a HAZMAT handling/container inspection AND Air load Planner certification.
- Position requires incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a Flight Line Drivers Certification.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Motor Vehicle Operator (Forklift Operator) without more than normal supervision. perform common Motor Vehicle Operator (FLO) tasks including: Operating Motor vehicles on public roads and/or highways; maintaining vehicles in clean and serviceable condition; loading and/or unloading equipment from vehicles and operating a forklift. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

PHYSICAL EFFORT: Work assignments involve light physical effort in reaching, bending, turning or moving arms and legs to operate hand and foot controls. Moderate physical effort is required to lift and move cargo, supplies, and materials. Frequent stooping and bending to inspect troop equipment and work different scales for vehicle/equipment weights. Moderate physical effort is necessary to tie down equipment as required for out loading and completing preventative maintenance checks for vehicles dispatched to assigned section.
WORKING CONDITIONS : Operator is required to work outside and is occasionally exposed to bad weather conditions. Vehicles are driven in all types of traffic and weather on public roads, storage areas, including heavily congested areas and tight areas. Driver is exposed to the danger of serious accidents.
