The Orlando VA Medical Center is seeking a Registered Nurse (Interventional Radiology) Unit who collaborates effectively and provides education, clinical direction to promote safe, efficient patient care for Veterans within the OVAHCS. The Interventional Radiology RN provides comprehensive nursing care and assists and operates equipment for the care of the veteran in the Interventional Radiology or Radiology Suite.

The Registered Nurse, lnterventional Radiology position is located Interventional Radiology under under surgery/ procedure Department and reports to the Nurse manager of the section or designee.
The lnterventional Radiology RN is responsible for assessing the need of each patient and performing duties that require advanced training and experience as related to the lnterventional Radiology and Radiology Department and meeting the needs of the patient. Must be assured and articulate in communicating with people of varied educational levels and varied ethnic backgrounds and be willing to work cooperatively as a member of a team in all assignments. The Registered Nurse (IR) is a proficient nurse who understands a situation as a whole and perceives its meaning in terms of long-term goals. The proficient nurse learns from experience what typical events to expect in a given situation and how plans need to be modified in response to these events. The Nurse demonstrates performance and leadership in delivering and improving holistic care through collaborative strategies with others. They are self-directed and have a global understanding of how their area(s) of responsibility support the system's mission and vision. They demonstrate sound decision-making and judgment and possess excellent interpersonal and collaborative skills.
The RN (IR) must have a working knowledge of various IR and Radiology invasive procedures, medications used in the IR Lab, medications used during emergency situations, knowledge of sterile technique, and assist wherever needed. Functions effectively as a team member, listens to others, contributes to discussion, maintains confidentiality, provides and accepts constructive criticism appropriately, appreciates other people's point of view, and seeks win-win solutions. The RN is responsible for administration of IV sedation, monitoring patients, and may be needed to assist the physician and/or IR technologist wherever possible during invasive procedures.
This position requires potentially long periods of time wearing lead, and requires flexibility in schedule and assignments, as procedures occasionally run longer than expected, and emergent cases may happen while staff are still on shift. There is an on-call requirement for this position.
Major duties and responsibilities for the Registered Nurse (lnterventional Radiology) include, but are not limited to:
Demonstrates ability to function independently with little or no supervision.
Cares for the veteran their priority while in the work setting and demonstrate customer service principles in all aspects of work.
Self-motivated in the pursuit of meeting professional work standards.
Provides specific information to help the patient/family understand pre, intra, and post-procedure activities.
Demonstrates knowledge of basic principles of radiation safety and appropriate methods to minimize patient and staff exposure.
Possesses the knowledge and skills to safely and effectively provide monitoring and administering moderate sedation for patients.
Must be proficient in initiating peripheral IV sites and competent in EKG recognition, clinical hemodynamic monitoring, data interpretation, and various invasive and non-invasive procedures.
Demonstrate advanced nursing skills to manage and assist with emergency or life-threatening situations (airway management and resuscitation efforts).
The RN possess the ability to cross-cover all the necessary clinic areas and other responsibilities as assigned.
Must participate in quality improvement activities and the educational development of self and others.
Work Schedule: Full time Monday thru Friday0730-1600, with workday/hours flexibility as patient care needs require, there is an on-call requirement for this position.

Qualifications
Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.
Basic Requirements:
United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
English Language Proficiency. In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English.
Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). The approving official may authorize a waiver of the requirement for ACEN or CCNE accreditation of any degree in nursing provided the college or university has regional accreditation from an accrediting body recognized by the Department of Education at the time of the candidate's graduation and the composite qualifications of the applicant warrant such consideration. In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. OR The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6) OR In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of a current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement for graduation from an approved school of professional nursing.
Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia.
Preferred Experience:
Current procedural experience within last last 2 years..
BSN preferred.
National Certification within service preferred
Grade Determinations: The following criteria must be met in determining the grade assignment of candidates, and if appropriate, the level within a grade:
Nurse I Level I - An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, with no additional nursing practice/experience required.
Nurse I Level II - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 1 year of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelor's degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience; OR a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) with no additional nursing practice/experience.
Nurse I Level III - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a BSN with approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no additional nursing practice/experience.
Nurse II - A BSN with approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing or related field with a BSN and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience required.
Nurse III - Master's degree in nursing or related field with BSN and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience.
Note regarding MSN degrees: If your MSN was obtained via a Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration, a BSN is not required.

Physical Requirements: This position requires visual acuity, keen hearing, clear distinctive speech, and manual dexterity. This position requires potentially long periods of continued walking, standing, kneeling, sitting, bending, pulling, and pushing. Transferring patients and objects may be required. The incumbent may be exposed to infected patients and contaminated materials and may be required to don protective clothing in isolation situations or operative/invasive procedures. The incumbent may occasionally be exposed to patients who are combative secondary to delirium, dementia, or psychiatric disorders. The incumbent must be a mature, flexible, sensible individual, capable of working effectively in stressful situations, and able to shift priorities based on patient needs.
