This position is located in the Fleet/Grounds Department in the Engineering Section, Facilities Management Service. The primary purpose of the position involves the operation of Fleet/Grounds vehicles and equipment assigned to support the facility and maintain the grounds.
Duties
Duties include, but are not limited to:
Operates gasoline and/or diesel powered vehicles such as sedans, station wagons, vans, pick-ups, and ambulance to transport personnel and/or cargo.
Operates vehicles,. passenger vehicles and equipment up to or over 26,001 pound GWJR with 16 or more passengers and/or with flat-bed, van and/or dump bed bodies.
Operates equipment assigned to maintain the grounds including, but not limited to, tractors, weed eaters, saws, scythes, snow removal equipment, hand tools, and tree and bush trimmers.
Uses equipment to clean ditches, complete demolition, cut grass, clean up grounds, etc.
Transports passengers and/or cargo in all types of weather and road conditions and is subject to exposure to the elements during loading and unloading, refueling and changing flat tires.
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 6:30 A.M. to 3:00 P.M.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Employee must have the physical ability and effort to apply asphalt, load and unload materials, supplies, tools, garbage and trash, cut grass, trim trees, clean ditches, move earth, etc. Employee must perform heavy lifting in a manner to ensure against injury to self or other personnel. Heavy physical effort may be required in loading and unloading personnel into or out of ambulances and in the transporting of various supplies. Incumbent may work from ladders, scaffolding, and/or hydraulic platforms. This position requires working in uncontrolled environments, in inclement weather conditions, and in confined or uncomfortable spaces. Many work sites are hot, dirty, dusty, greasy, poorly lit, cramped and with unpleasant odors. Occasionally is subject to possible dangerous working conditions including exposure to hazards normally encountered in the hospital trades and various types of infections. May be subject to burns, cuts, bruises, and strains. Required to wear appropriate personal protective equipment as necessary to accomplish assigned tasks in a safe manner. Environmental factors the incumbent may be exposed to include:
- Outside and inside work.
- Excessive heat, cold, humidity, dampness or chilling.
- Excessive noise, intermittent.
- Constant noise.
- Dust, fumes, smoke or gases, solvents, grease and oils.
- Slippery or uneven walking surfaces.
- Working around machinery with moving parts.
- Working around moving objects or vehicles.
- Working on ladders or scaffolding.
- Working alone or closely with others.
- Protracted or irregular hours of work.
