This position is located in the Division of Healthcare-Associated Infections (HAI), Center for Quality Improvement and Patient Safety (CQuIPS), Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ). The Agency provides national leadership and administration of programs to enhance the quality and safety of health care services through the establishment of a broad base of scientific research, and through the dissemination and implementation of best practices developed through the research.
Duties
ABOUT THE POSITION
The incumbent will be heavily involved in the administration of the Center's activities relating to HAIs and CARB, as well as patient safety and quality improvement more generally. The work includes a broad range of activities which require the employee to be innovative and exercise leadership to formulate major aspects of Agency programs and effectively consider competing management and scientific priorities, as well as considerable judgment in developing, interpreting, and adapting approaches which are subject to Congressional scrutiny.
The incumbent leads the Healthcare-Associated Infections (HAI) Division and provides guidance and expertise for a full range of research and programmatic activities related to health services research, clinical research evaluation and related disciplines across the Center, including data analysis, research implementation, and quality and safety measurement.
The incumbent develops comprehensive strategies to prevent and reduce HAIs and combat antibiotic-resistant bacteria (CARB), including improving antibiotic use and promoting antibiotic stewardship; stimulate HAI prevention and CARB related research through the planning, development, and execution of new grants/contracts which focus on the clinical, as well as other aspects of health care quality, services, and systems; cultivate collaborations with other Federal entities such as NIH, CDC, FDA, HRSA, and CMS which relate to the Agency's and the Center's priority areas; and prepares position papers, reports, and oral presentations that summarize various facets of the HAI program.

Qualifications
BASIC REQUIREMENTS
Eligibility for the Senior Biomedical Research and Biomedical Product Assessment Service (SBRBPAS) applicant must have a doctoral level degree in biomedicine or a biological related field, or a doctoral level degree in engineering, bioinformatics, or a related or emerging field and meet the OPM Qualification Standards for a General Schedule (GS) 15 level position in the applicable professional or scientific series (42 U.S.C. ?237(b) and 42 CFR ?24.4)
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Must be considered an expert in the field of: Clinical Research (Patient Safety)
1) Actively engaged in clinical research, implementation, or evaluation and whose work in the field of patient safety is considered by recognized experts or peers in the field to be outstanding.
2) Have significant experience dealing with complex, precedent-setting research, implementation, or evaluation issues which have had far reaching implications for patient safety clinical research or resulted in a widespread economic effect in the healthcare delivery system.
3) Have taken an active role in the development of significant scientific or regulatory guidelines for patient safety research, implementation, or evaluation.
4) Received invitations to speak at or to chair major national or international meetings and symposia.
5) Demonstrate sufficient rigor or accomplishment in a relevant or closely related field that is necessary to the accomplishment of the mission of the Center.
