Qualifications

In addition to the educational requirements, we are looking for at least one year of specialized experience related to this position as described below: To qualify for the GS-13 level, you need to have at least one year of full-time experience equivalent to the GS-12 level defined as ability to evaluate and incorporate into Agency guidelines and criteria the most recent developments and scientific knowledge in the area of risk characterization or exposure assessment.  Your answers to the online assessment will be used to evaluate your competencies in the following areas:  Skill in the development of technical reports and written and oral presentation of such reports. Knowledge of related technical areas such as risk characterization (i.e., hazard identification and dose response assessments or exposure assessment). Knowledge of Federal laws, Agency regulations, statutes, and guidelines pertaining to hazardous waste sufficient to apply environmental regulatory requirements. Knowledge of chemical/pesticide industry developments and intended commercial applications. Ability to evaluate and incorporate into Agency guidelines and criteria the most recent developments and scientific knowledge in the area of risk characterization or exposure assessment. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Education

You need a degree or combination of education and experience as described below to qualify for this position.

A bachelor’s or higher degree from an accredited or pre-accredited college or university in:

Biological Sciences Series 0401:

Degree: biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.

or

Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

Chemistry Series, 1320:

Degree: physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering that included 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by course work in mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics.

or

Combination of education and experience -- course work equivalent to a major as shown in A above, including at least 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

Toxicology Series, 0415:

Degree: toxicology; or an appropriate discipline of the biological, medical, or veterinary sciences that included at least 30 semester hours in chemistry, biochemistry, or physiology, and 12 semester hours in toxicology.
