The primary purpose of this position WELDER, WG-3703-11, is to perform metal welding work involved in the manufacture, repair, modification, and assembly of various types of metal and alloy parts, equipment, systems, and structures.
Duties
Use a variety of welding processes such as oxyacetylene, electrode arc, submerged arc, shielded metal arc welding, gas metal arc welding, gas tungsten arc welding, metal spray arc, and spot and stud welding to join all types of common metals and alloys.
Plan and lay out work from blueprints, sketches, drawings, specifications, and work orders.
Utilize safety practices, established rules, regulations, and procedures.
Use and maintain tools.
As required, may train and/or guide lower graded/lesser experienced employees.

- The work will require the employee to drive a motor vehicle. A valid state driver's license, government driver's license, airfield driver's license will be required for the position. Maintains security clearance and restricted area badge.

- Natural gas and liquid fuel line welding certification may be required for this position.

Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C.
QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG 3700 Metal Processing Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.
The screen out element for this position is Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: lifts, carries, and handles equipment up to 25 pounds unassisted and over 25 pounds with assistance. Works from ladders, scaffolding platforms, or cramped areas where equipment, parts, or tools are hard to reach. Work requires frequent stooping, stretching, bending, kneeling, and working in tiring, uncomfortable positions for long periods. In addition, work involves frequent movement and maneuvering of large, heavy equipment using hoists, holders, and pulleys as required.
WORKING CONDITIONS: The work is done inside and outside during extreme weather conditions and is usually dirty, dusty, and greasy
conditions. Occasionally makes repairs in areas where foul and/or hazardous fumes are present. The worker is occasionally exposed to the possibility of loud noise, fire, explosion, asphyxiation, broken bones, scrapes, bums, electric shock. May be required to wear safety equipment, such as safety shoes, glasses, gloves, respirator, hard hats, ear protection devices, safety harnesses, and other personal protective equipment.
