This position is located in Carlsbad Caverns National Park, in the Visitor and Resource Protection Fee Management Division.

Duties

Major Duties: Perform full range of supervisory duties for a team of permanent and seasonal recreation fee technician and clerks. Collect appropriate fees at entrance station in accordance with accountability guidelines; determine visitor eligibility for the sale of various park passes and maintain accountable stock. Serve as a front-line uniformed representative of the park. Provide current and accurate information and excellent customer service to visitors concerning the park and surrounding areas. Operate equipment (e.g., point of sale systems, electronic cash register, credit card machine, and/or computer) to collect fees and track various forms of payment (e.g., cash, credit cards, checks., etc..). Prepare reports including remittance reports, shift reports, and visitor use statistics. AREA INFORMATION/HOUSING INFORMATION: Carlsbad Caverns National Park is located 27 miles from the city of Carlsbad in southeastern New Mexico. The Park, at an elevation of 4400 feet, has a semi-arid climate with hot summers, mild winters, abundant sunshine, low humidity, and approximately 10 inches of rainfall per year. Carlsbad (population 29,000) has all amenities and services including medical and dental facilities, motels, banks, restaurants, churches, grocery stores, department stores, and several recreation facilities. Information about Carlsbad and the Carlsbad area can be found at the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce. Schools include K-12, and Southeast New Mexico College (SENM). Other services can be found in Albuquerque (280 miles), El Paso, Texas (170 miles), Lubbock, Texas (180 miles), or Midland/Odessa, Texas (150 miles). Recreation opportunities are plentiful with Guadalupe Mountains National Park located 50 miles from the city of Carlsbad, two state parks (Brantley Lake and Living Desert Zoo), and the Lincoln National Forest within an hour's drive. Please note: A government van pool may provide service between Carlsbad, NM and Carlsbad Caverns National Park for staff.

Qualifications

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-09/06/2023-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. For current Federal employees, if hours worked per week are not included on your resume, you must submit a non-award SF-50 for each federal position listed as part of your application to be used to validate your work schedule and determine the amount of qualifying experience that you will be granted. An award SF-50 will not be acceptable documentation for which to consider your amount of qualifying experience. For all other applicants who are not current federal employees, your resume must state either "full-time" (or "40 hours a week") or "part-time" with the number of hours worked per week to ensure proper crediting of specialized experience. Failure to adequately provide information needed to determine number of hours worked in each position may result in that time not being credited when evaluating qualifying experience. For periods of time that reflect military service, the DD-214 or Statement of Service is sufficient to meet the full and/or part-time hours requirement as the service dates will be reflected. To qualify for this position at the GS-08 grade level, you must possess the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as: Provides oversight of fee collection operations, Supervises and evaluates subordinate staff; Leading and training others in collecting appropriate fees and following established accountability guidelines; Leading and training others in troubleshooting and operation of an electronic cash register and other electronic equipment; Leading and training others in completing shift reports to verify money collected, accountable stock sold, and all transactions from the shift; Resolving issues that arise in the remittance process and assisting staff with fee issues. You must include hours per week worked. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
