The primary purpose of this position is to perform routine and repetitive work in the troubleshooting, installation, modification, overhaul, maintenance, and repair of exercise electronic equipment.

Duties

- Overhauls, repairs, rebuilds, modifies, and maintains electronic exercise equipment of limited complexity. - Performs daily inspection of fitness center equipment. Prepares fields and courts for practice, scheduled season games, tournaments and special events. - Uses standard hand tools such as drills, chassis punches, wrenches, soldering irons and micro soldering units to remove and replace circuit parts where accurate positioning, appearance, mechanical strength, and electrical integrity are important. - Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work environment. - Drives one or more types of light trucks that typically have a gross vehicle weight (GVW) of up to 10,000 pounds, such as pickup trucks, panel trucks, flatbed trucks, carryalls, and sedans to transport materials and equipment.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-4800 General Equipment Maintenance Group. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is the ability to do the work of an Exercise Equipment Repairer without more than normal supervision. JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Knowledge of wiring diagrams, specifications and schematics as well as electrical motors and mechanical parts. 2. Knowledge of mathematics of the trade, standard test procedures, schematics, test/computer program instructions, technical manuals, and technical directives pertaining to electronics equipment. 3. Knowledge of operating one or more gasoline, diesel, or electric powered wheeled vehicles with a GVW of up to 10,000 pounds such as pickup trucks, panel trucks, flatbed trucks, carryalls, sedans, crew cab pickup trucks, jeeps, and station wagons. Knowledge of traffic and safety regulations, practices, and procedures pertaining to motor vehicle operation; and passenger safety rules including those regarding the use of seatbelts. 4. Knowledge of equipment to make multiple connections from equipment to the tractor, connecting mechanical drive shafts, and hydraulic lines; operating characteristics of tractor and towed/attached equipment such as tractor gears and power ratios as well as lifting, balancing, braking, and turning capabilities of equipment. 5. Skill to operate and apply computerized automatic test equipment, oscilloscopes, signal/pulse generators, frequency counters, and voltmeters. Skill in the use of hand tools such as drills, chassis punches, wrenches, soldering irons, and micro soldering units. 6. Ability to follow specified checkout procedures and compare readings with specified values using automated and standard test equipment, including computer terminals to maintain records and document actions. Ability to remove and replace circuit parts where accurate positioning, appearance, mechanical strength, and electrical integrity are important. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Frequently lifts and carries, unassisted, items weighing up to 40 pounds. Sometimes required to lift and carry items weighing more than 50 pounds with the help of weight handling equipment or with assistance from other workers. The work requires frequent standing, walking, bending, crouching, reaching, and stooping. Climbing and working in high places may be required. Some work may require the aid of magnifying lenses, eye loops, and microscopes to accomplish repairs on miniature components. WORKING CONDITIONS: Employee typically works in well-lighted, heated, and ventilated areas. Work is sometimes in high and restricted places, under conditions of heat and cold outside in inclement weather. Exposed to the possibility of electric shock, burns from electrical or RF energy or hot solder, and cuts and bruises.
