Duties

THIS IS A T5 EXCEPTED SERVICE, PERMANENT POSITION The primary purpose of the ELECTRONICS TECHNICIAN, GS-0856-11, is to perform technical work in the maintenance, continuous operation, technical functioning and performance certification of electronic systems used in airways navigation and air traffic control. This includes performing work involved in a program of preventive and corrective maintenance, analysis of system performance, development and submission of recommendations for system improvements, and restoration of service in the event of failure.

ELECTRONICS TECHNICIAN, GS-0856-11: Must have at least one year of specialized experience, equivalent to at least the GS-09 level, or equivalent pay band in other pay systems in the Federal government. This experience may also have been obtained in the private sector, but must demonstrate that it is comparable to the GS grade indicated. Specialized experience may have been demonstrated by performing duties such as: Experience certifying assigned systems and sub-systems to ensure compliance with established standards and safety requirements; Experience ensuring systems are operating at peak efficiency with minimum interruptions by performing optimization, analysis, periodic testing, and corrective procedures; Experience performing flight check inspections and joint acceptance of newly installed equipment and/or major modifications to the system(s). Experience providing technical consultant to determine whether systems are operationally acceptable and safe within the prescribed standards and tolerances for air traffic control and air navigation.
