About the Position: Serve as a Supervisory Nurse (Otolaryngology/Ophthalmology) within the Defense Health Agency (DHA), North Carolina Coast Market, Naval Medical Center Camp Lejeune. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation

Duties

Responsible for assessing, leading, training, planning, directing, implementing, and evaluating nursing care and all related clinic management activities. As the first line supervisor, the incumbent assigns work to subordinates based on priorities, difficulty of assignments, and the capabilities of employees. Provide technical oversight as well as developing performance standards and plans and rates employees. Monitor metrics to identify and solve problems to ensure delivery of quality patient care. Collaborate with Department Heads of Otolaryngology and Ophthalmology to develop, justify and monitor departmental budgets. Evaluate the need for updating the departments? Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and implement changes. Identify and address issues that affect patient care outcomes, collaborates with appropriate providers to prevent recurrence of issues.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Tier 3 security investigation or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
  • In accordance with Department of Defense Instruction (DODI) 1402.5, Child Care National Agency Check and Inquiries (CNACI) background investigations are required for all individuals who have regular contact with children under 18 years of age.
  • This position requires the incumbent to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges.
  • This position has mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirements and is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons (documentation of exemption must be provided upon hire).
  • This position may require the incumbent to work on any day or shift, including PMs, nights, weekends, holidays, or on an "on call" basis, necessary to meet mission requirements.
  • This position may require the incumbent to complete a one year supervisory probationary period.

Basic Requirement for Supervisory Nurse (Otolaryngology/Ophthalmology): Degree: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.). Licensure: A current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States; and you must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. Foreign Degree: A degree from a Foreign Nursing School. Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools. Exemption: You are exempt from the basic requirements above if you are a current federal employee occupying a position in the 0610 occupational series and have been continuously employed in this occupational series since September 27, 2017 or before. Applicants claiming this exemption must meet the requirements below: Note: You will be required to provide appropriate documentation to the respective Human Resources Office to validate your status. Degree or diploma from a professional nursing program approved by the legally designated State accrediting agency at the time the program was completed by the applicant. Active, current registration as a professional nurse in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Professional Nursing Experience: One or more full years of professional nursing experience which includes supervising, educating, assigning work and evaluating subordinate staff; monitoring metrics to identify and solve problems to ensure delivery of quality patient care; and updating operating procedures and implementing changes to ensure compliance with changing requirements. This definition of professional nursing experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
